Chest doctors for cleaner air
MANILA, Philippines - COPD and asthma are only a few of the respiratory diseases that the Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP) is fighting against.
In a recently held health forum at the BCI Auditorium at the Hospital of the University of Santo Tomas, the Philippine College of Chest Physicians, in partnership with the OneWallOneWorld advocacy, stressed the grave effects that pollution has on health.
“We as lung specialists note with grave concern that hundreds of millions of people struggle each year for life and breath due to lung diseases that include tuberculosis, asthma, pneumonia, influenza, lung cancer and COPD and because of these, more than 10 million die,” said Dr. Abundio Balgos, president of the PCCP.
Other members of the PCCP who attended the forum were Dr. Rosauro Vicente Valenzuela Jr., Dr. Isaias Lanzona and Dr. Ivan Villespin. Meanwhile, other distinguished speakers who likewise shared their insights about the correlation of health and clean air included Dr. Imelda Mateo of the PCCP, Teresita Peralta of the Department of Environment and Natural Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB – DENR) and Bjorn Wahlstedt of Conexor.
Under the OneWallOneWorld advocacy, the PCCP will be harnessing the breakthrough paint technology of Boysen KNOxOUT, a paint innovation that’s proven to take away eight cars’ worth of emissions per square meter painted. PCCP is helping the spread the word about the effect of air pollution on health as well as promoting the concrete ways by which people can alleviate air pollution — one of which is by painting wall surfaces with Boysen KNOxOUT.
