First Filipino Gurgitator
MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-five eating machines competed recently at 7-Eleven’s Big Bite Match held at the SM Mall of Asia for the glory of being hailed the Philippines’ first Filipino Gurgitator.
Leopoldo Quinto Jr. was officially crowned the country’s first professional eater and brought home P500,000 cash after he went head to head with second place finisher Kyle de Guzman in a tie-breaker. De Guzman won P150,000. In third place was Edwin Duque, in fourth place is John Paul Argoncillo, in fifth place is Alejandro Villarino, in sixth place is Jose Rivera and finally, in seventh place is Domingo Beltrano.
“Our culture’s natural affinity for food paves the way for this sport to be appreciated both for its novelty and the challenge it presents,” said Armi Andrade, 7-Eleven’s food service division manager.
“While it is a rapidly growing competitive sport, few recognize just how challenging competitive eating can be and 7-Eleven Philippines, by hosting the country’s first hotdog eating competition, we believe that Filipinos will appreciate being introduced to the exhilaration of this new, spectator event,” added Victor Paterno, president of 7-Eleven Philippines.
