If you had to dedicate a song to someone, what would it be?

Everybody has at least one favorite song. Songs can mean so much to us personally, evoking our memories our expressing something to our loved ones that words and actions may not capture. So it’s no wonder that people love to “dedicate” songs during special occasions or on radio and TV shows. It’s a way of communicating a special message, sharing a feeling, or just saying what mere words can’t convey.

Here are the special songs that this week’s respondents want to share, and why.

I wrote and dedicated a song for my sister Barni on my new album. It’s called The Rain and it’s about having hope even at the lowest, most desperate times of our lives.

I dedicate Rainbow by South Border to myself. This song saw me through some tough times. Life is full of challenges. Not all the time do things happen the way we want them to. But I have learned to welcome the change that each trial brings. I am hopeful I will make it through each storm that life throws my way and happily embrace the thought that there’s a rainbow always after the rain...

The song would be Man In the Mirror and it would be for everyone. Michael Jackson had so many songs about trying to heal and save the world. Now that he is gone, somehow, watching the movie This Is It makes me just really hope that everyone does their part.

I would like to dedicate Heaven by Bryan Adams. I think it’s a classic now since it’s been remade several times. Aubrey likes to sing that song and her version is pretty sweet.

I would dedicate the song Give Thanks by Don Moen to my family and friends. I sing this song when I start having a grumbling spirit or when discouraging situations come, and immediately it changes my heart and my perspective. A grateful heart comes from knowing that we have a God who always has our best interest in mind, a God who is perfect and always in control of our lives. Therefore, we can trust that there is nothing that He will allow in our lives that will not be used for good in the end. He always has a way of turning around something ugly into something beautiful.

Parañaque Rep. ROILO GOLEZ

My mother, Dolores Solis Golez, passed on February 24 this year at the age of 88. She was a good, strong and loving mother to us, her children, including the in-laws, grandchildren and practically the entire clan. It’s been more than eight months since her passing but I still miss her a lot. There was a prewar, 1941 song made popular by Bing Crosby entitled Dolores. It’s a beautiful song. The lyrics and the scintillating melody capture the essence of Dolores, my mother. She was a beauty during that time in our little rural town in Looc, Romblon, and she remained a beautiful person up to the moment of her passing.

I would dedicate the song Fifteen by Taylor Swift to my daughter Gaby. She’s a freshman in high school and is going through a lot of adjustments right now. She’s in a new environment and making new friends. It’s been a major change for her and for me as well since she’s my firstborn. I love her to pieces and she’s a fantastic girl! I just want let her know that she’s way, way cooler than she thinks she is. I’m here for her anytime she needs me.

I would dedicate the song Can’t Take My Eyes Off You to my two kids Isabella Beatriz (who is two years old) and Gabrielle Francesca (who is two weeks old). When I hug the kids when they sleep or comfort them when they are upset, this is the song that I sing to them. Isabella sometimes now sings it to her baby sister when they are together. This is the song that I would sing to Isabella at 3 a.m. when I would put her to sleep after she would feed as a newborn. Now, I am singing the song to my baby Gabrielle. It’s an upbeat swing song that has so much meaning if you just take the time to listen to the words. Maybe as a mom now, I find more meaning in small, everyday things and little details. It’s the simple joys that I have every day with my husband, my kids and my family and friends that give me great happiness.

After explaining what “dedicating” means for about five minutes, he said he wants to dedicate Eye of the Tiger by Survivor to our dad. He said, “I want to dedicate it to Daddy because I heard the song when we were watching our favorite show Supernatural. Now, it’s my favorite song and I like singing and dancing to it.”
