The Portofino lifestyle

- Tanya T. Lara -

MANILA, Philippines – There is nothing better than living in a place that makes you feel as if you are out of town every day, yet actually still close enough to your place of work and leisure. That’s how one resident of Portofino describes living here — a community of exclusive enclaves that comprise 300 hectares of land developed by Brittany, a Vista Land company.

Named after a fishing village on the Italian Riviera, our version of Portofino is a high-end community that’s as pretty as the Mediterranean port village. It is a laid-back place where the rustic colors of Italy — ochre, orange, burnt sienna, brown and green — change hues under a lazy sun, grow quiet during a rain, and sparkle in the night.

Here, the morning sounds are of chirping birds, not of car horns; the smells are of newly cut grass, not traffic fumes. Just being here helps melt the stress away.

Dubbed “the New Alabang,” it is easy to imagine Portofino to be its own town due to its size, one that’s filled with pretty houses surrounded by lush landscaping and entered through courtyards. Even the streets bear charming Italian names.

The development is subdivided into Portofino Heights, Portofino South, Courtyards of Portofino, and Amore of Portofino. Each enclave has its own set of amenities — a clubhouse equipped with different sizes of function and meeting rooms (weddings and parties are often held in the bigger halls), swimming pools, playgrounds, jogging paths surrounded by trees, courts for tennis, badminton and basketball.

With its wide, open spaces dotted with trees and shrubbery, Portofino is a wonderful place to raise children who can run around without you having to worry about their security. It also encourages a healthy lifestyle — with the roads wide open for walking and jogging, and little nooks for meditation.

Homebuyers can either buy a lot only or a house and lot package. Brittany makes it easy for them to decide on the kind of house to get as it offers several options and sizes, depending on one’s lifestyle and family size.

Called the “signature creations,” Portofino’s architects have come up with three main designs: The Masters Collection, Courtyards of Portofino, and Amore.

The Masters Collection is a series of homes ranging from 323 to 625 sq.m. The grandest is Michelangelo with seven bedrooms and generously sized living and dining rooms, and kitchen. It has many nooks where one can entertain or — if the mood dictates — meditate.

Courtyards of Portofino ranges from 204 to 323 sq.m. What characterizes this series of designs is an inner courtyard — a feature that’s not often found in today’s houses. Walking through the Renoir model home makes you realize that the design dictates that you have a relaxed lifestyle, as if telling you to slow down and come sit and enjoy your own house.

Amore of Portofino ranges from 141 to 259 sq.m. The model house Niccolo, at 141 sq.m., is an ingenious design that shows how a smaller space can look and feel grand as well.

No matter what the size of the house, all Portofino homes have that consistent look of old-world charm that invites one to actually enjoy life.
