This angel likes fantasy and stories of redemption

THE READING CLUB - Girlie Rodis -

Angel Locsin, the young actress currently in the eye of a press storm, recently arrived from London to “face the music” as she officially signs with her new network, ABS-CBN, leaving behind her former network GMA-7.

I have had the pleasure of working with this young actress on her Avon endorsement campaign and I must say that I have not yet seen even a glimpse of a negative side. Angel has always conducted herself in a professional manner in every event. Even when she is obviously tired from a long day of shooting, she always smiles at the end of the day. Even the foreign crew members assigned to work with her have nothing but praise for Angel, as she always endeavors to give her best. She is always polite and softspoken when requesting anything on the set.

During one of our shoots, I asked Angel to share with us her favorite books:

1. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling: “It’s about a boy wizard and his many adventures. I like reading Harry Potter because it allows me to escape into a world so different from where I am. It may be a fantasy, but it is just fun to read.”

2. Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom: “Three stories woven together and told by an 83-year-old man named Eddie. I found it inspirational. Naka-relate ako.”

3. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini: “A story about Amir and Hassan and their unique friendship. This book was given to me by a friend, which is what made it more special.”

4. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien: “This where The Lord of the Rings trilogy begins. As with the Harry Potter series, I enjoy fantasy novels. I get so involved with their world and the characters that live in it.”

5. War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells: “This book was originally written in 1898. It combines horror and suspense, keeping your eyes glued to each page. Better than the movie versions!”

6. Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller: “About a world-class photographer just driving through a Midwestern American town who unexpectedly meets an ordinary Iowa farmer’s wife and develops a romance. It is just so romantic. Better than the movie.”

“The Reading Club” recommends The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. This book was highly recommended to me by fellow columnist Panjee Tapales and I cannot thank her enough. It was a wonderful read — unique in its narrative. I simply could not put this book down and now I will have a hard time finding something else to read. On the local front, get yourself a copy of Introduction to Entrepreneurship-Success Stories of Filipino Entrepreneurs by the Association of Filipino Franchisers Inc. (AFFI).

For magazines, I always enjoy Martha Stewart’s Living. Subscriptions are available through Emerald Headway at 647-4744.
