What are your travel essentials?

Summertime signals travel time for most of us. To beat the heat, we head to our favorite travel destinations, be it the beach or any cold place. We all have our travel essentials to make our vacation complete – for some they’re practical things, for others they’re simply familiar things. Here are what some personalities put in their bags when going on a trip.

JAIME J. BAUTISTA, president and COO, Philippine Airlines: Aside from my two mobile phones, passport, tickets and credit cards, I see to it that I have my iPod and my Bose noise-canceling earphones. I always make it a point to know the weather in my destination so I can bring the right clothes. Last but not the least, I always see to it that I have in my travel bag a rosary and in my wallet a few bills and pictures of my wife and daughter.
MARTIN COOK, deputy CEO, HSBC: I certainly recommend always having your international ATM card and PIN with you (ouch! as a banker, how did I forget that one?), the recharge cord for your Blackberry (unless the wife has deliberately off-loaded it) and a corkscrew for when only a glass of red wine will help and the hotel one has gone missing! All of the above, however, can be overcome providing that you never, never, never forget to travel with your credit card, preferably from "the world’s local bank!"
MARILEN FAUSTINO, model/interior designer: When I am traveling, I need to have my cosmetic bag, which contains my essentials like sun block for the face (especially if I am going to hit the beach), moisturizer (to hydrate my skin during long plane rides), toothbrush and toothpaste, compact powder, and lip gloss.
HANS MONTENEGRO, director, HR department, ABC-5: For land trips, I need my iPod. Di bale nang walang aircon, basta may sounds! For plane rides, I need to have a good book or at least three magazines. I don’t really sleep well on a plane so I like to read. A pack of Dentyne is also a must. I used to need my cell phone but lately I kinda like being incommunicado when I’m on vacation.
VICTORIA MARIN, jewelry designer: These are the items I can’t leave without when I travel, not necessarily in this order: a good book, my iPod, my Apple laptop, sunglasses and a bikini (if I’m going to a resort), moisturizer and lip balm, cell phone, my notebook to I write down or draw all the ideas that come to mind, and my camera.
IVY CHANG, makeup artist, Style Lab: I always bring a good moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated during travel, eye cream because the eyes are where most women usually start to show age the most, a bronzer and cream blush are great so you can take your glow with you, and baby wipes which I use anytime and anywhere for a fast way to remove makeup, oil and dirt.
ABBYGALE DE LEON, Lancome chief makeup artist: My summer travel must-haves are my son Ijah, husband Jun, skincare samples from Lancôme like my Lancôme SPF50 (it’s a must!), Kerastase Soleil hair products, L’Oreal 24-hour protection lotion, my gigantic shades, sarongs, my Wacoal two-piece swimwear (I wear my C-section scar like a badge of courage), my unopened magazines, and finally my fake golden glow tan from Emphasis Salon!
PAOLO RELUCIO, executive producer: Aside from having a companion to travel with, I make sure I have a first-aid kit (medicines, Band-aid, alcohol), a camera, and my cell phone.
LIZ ALMORO REVILLAME, wife/restaurateur: I don’t travel light because everything is essential for me. I see to it that I have extra ensembles of clothing in case something comes up. But the must-haves in my bag are my cell phone, wallet (which contains money, ATM and credit cards), my digi-cam to capture every moment. And for my face, I never leave home without sun block, powder, blush, lipstick and curlash. And, of course, I always bring a pair of shades to hide eye bags from late nights, eye sun protection and for an instant glam to spice up whatever outfit I’m wearing.
STEFANIE CABAL, associate editor, Metro magazine: My travel must-haves are iPod Photo, which I use to store photos, listen to music and record journal entries; Canon digi-cam to freeze time; cell phone; big, dark-framed sunglasses; book; cashmere sweater; jeans; silk scarf; moisturizer and lip balm.
MICHELE PERIQUET JONES, entrepreneur/design consultant: Researched list of must-dos, a trusty camera, my faithful Blackberry, travel-friendly dresses, well-worn trainers, sunscreen, Nyquil for emergencies, a stash of my favorite chocolates, and an interesting book.
