A point to ponder for makeup this season: Don’t overdo it. Take a hint from Nars. The chic makeup brand by French-born François Nars focuses on a fresh, subtle, and innocently sexy face for spring 2005. Nars comes up with barely-there makeup manifested by a hint of glimmer on the cheeks, shimmery pale pink tones on the lips, and golden accents on key areas of the face. A burst of color pops up in vivid green and citron shades for the eyes. This new spring collection preps us up for the brighter colors of summer: It’s the serene lull before the summer storm of corals, blues, and reds.
Roadtesting Nars’ new makeup collection for spring was April Galicia, sales representative, mother of two, and certified makeup fan. April’s best features are her round eyes and rosebud lips, features the delicate hues Nars’ Spring 2005 collection promises to define, not overpower.
Anna Rose first prepped up April’s skin with Mont Blanc oil-free foundation and covered up undereye circles and other skin imperfections with Nars’ stick concealer in custard. She then focused all attention to April’s eyes, first blending the pale pink and golden honey shades of the Windstar Duo Eyeshadow all over the eyelids. To add some spring color, Anna Rose applied the sage green shade from the April Fools Duo Eyeshadow all over April’s upper eyelid, blending outward to the outer corners of the eyes. Bright green eyeshadow is very versatile. On April’s fair complexion, the shimmery green acts as a highlighter, enhancing the shape of her eyes and making these look bigger and brighter. On morena skin, the green takes on a subtler, but still sexy, tone. For more glimmer, the yellow opal shade from the Wicked Duo Eyeshadow was daubed over the crease, blending into the sage green. The shimmery white shade, the sage green’s other half in the April Fools palette, was applied on the brow bone. To finish off the eye makeup, Anna Rose lined April’s eyes with liquid eyeliner and coated her lashes with glossy black mascara.
The season’s citron eyes goes best with translucent skin with a hint of golden shimmer. Anna rose brushed on a hint of Nar’s peach-toned Silvana blush onto April’s cheeks and topped it off with the nude-colored Nico blush from the Spring 2005 collection. The shimmer from this blush gives a natural glow to skin and emphasizes April’s cheekbones and classic bone structure. Lips are also subtle for François Nars’ spring interpretation. Anna Rose mixed Flaming Dust, a sheer red lipstick shade and Mojave lipstick, a shimmery pinkish-brown color, to give a barely-there natural sheen to the lips. She then put in a little shine to April’s pout with Pillow Talk lipgloss in a muted pink hue.
Capping off the makeover, Anna Rose dusted Nico blush on April’s chin and temples.
