WHAT’S YOUR WISH?

It’s human nature for us to want more than we have. Oftentimes we take for granted the little blessings that come our way. It is not uncommon for us to become disappointed when we don’t get what we want. Many times when we have problems we behave like it is the end of the world.
Last Tuesday, Reyster Langit and his assistant Myrna accompanied me to visit some of the patients at the Hematology Pediatric Section at the UST hospital. The sight of the little children suffering from the pain their illness brings really affected me. I could not help but stop and say a little prayer for them.
When I started to ask these kids what they wanted, their common answer was simply to get well soon. For them more than anything else in the world, they just wanted to have a normal life. It took me a long time to convince them to tell me what else they wanted.
Valentine’s Day, the day of hearts, is just around the corner, it would be nice if we could do something for these kids. Perhaps we could take a day off to spend with them. Or maybe we can make one of their dreams come true and hopefully this will make their suffering just a little lighter.

Magkaroon ako ng bike. Sana magkaroon rin kami ng sarili naming bahay, kasi nangungupahan lang kami sa Bulong, Sta. Rosa Laguna.
ANNABEL TOLEDO, 12. encephalocoele
Ang wish ko na matanggal ang bukol ko sa mata nabigay na. Sana makatapos na lang ako ng pag-aaral at magkaroon ako ng bisikleta para makapasyal ako sa Legaspi.
GIAN KARLA MONTALEZ, 7, acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Piano na may mike.
KRIZ LEE VELASCO, 8, renal artery stenosis
Sana magkaroon ako ng Barbie doll. Sana din kasama ang Lola Lilia ko. Sana makita ko ang nanay ko na nasa Canada ngayon namamasukan bilang isang caregiver.
JANELLE FERNANDEZ, 4, brain tumor
Gusto ko ng chocolate candy. Kay
Toto bunso kong kapatid, Mc Do at Jollibee tapos sa isa ko pang kapatid na si Jenelyn, Barbie doll.
CORNELIO PARAS, 17, hemophilia A
Sana gumaling lang ako para makapag-aral ako. Sana lahat ng maysakit ng hemophilia gumaling na. Lalong-lalo na malaki ang gastos.
BILLY REY D. HUTALLA, 3, internal cerebral hemorrhage
I want to be a pilot.
JAMIELLE NAREDO, 5, endodermal sinus tumor
Yoyo and scooter.
KRYSTEL DALUMPASIG, 11, achalasia
Gusto ko magkaroon ng bagong Barbie bag at saka notebook. Mga bagong damit para sa akin, sa nanay ko at sa mga kapatid ko.
KATHLEEN JUNIOS, 5, leukemia
Gusto ko makita yun sa Meteor Garden na si San Chai at Dao Ming Xu. Kasi paborito ko sila. Gusto ko rin ng Barbie doll kasi kumakanta siya.
