What’s your favorite scent?

WORDS WORTH - Mons Romulo -
Author Diane Ackerman in her book History of the Senses tells us that a scent is a powerful tool. We see it in literature and Hollywood movies: How a love affair is brought back to a person’s memory with a whiff of someone’s perfume. How we remember things and places when we smell a particular scent.

Perfume has come a long way since it was invented in the 15th century when it was created only for the nobility and citizens of prominence and wealth. Today, both men and women enjoy using perfume – or smelling it on a loved one!

A scent not only helps us remember, it can also alter our mood and our attitude.

Here are personalities talking about their favorite scents.

Senator Loren Legarda-Leviste:
I’m not really particular on what perfume to wear. I don’t really spend on perfumes and makeup. I use whatever is given to me by friends. During the 1998 elections or when I’m out in the field I use my son’s cologne, Nenuco, because it reminds me of my children whom I miss so much. It also makes me feel refreshed especially during hot, humid summer days.

Martin Nievera, Singer:
The scent of a woman is the smile on her face. The scent of a woman is left with each embrace. The scent of a woman can drive a man wild. The scent of a woman should last more than just a while. The scent of a woman is what makes me lust. The scent of a woman is necessary, a must. The scent of a woman brings out passion. The scent of a woman I love most is her scent mixed with mine...the morning after.

For me it’s Gendarme or Green Water, but my favorite scent on me is you!

Angel Jacob, actress/commercial model:
My favorite scents on myself are Baby Bench Jellybean and L’Occitane (for day) – a fresh, clean, crisp scent that makes me feel like I’ve just gotten out of the shower. And Lolita Lempicka for night. Its sweet smell isn’t too overpowering and it makes me feel like a walking candy.

On a guy, I like Johnson’s & Johnson’s baby cologne (blue). There’s nothing more appealing than a grown man smelling like a little boy.

Bianca Araneta, Model:
Denenes or Gucci Rush. For men Gendarme smells really clean and sexy!

David Almendral, president, Fuma Tobacco Inc.:
I don’t often wear cologne but when I do I like Amen by Thiery Mugler. I like it because it smells like Melba toast. My wife Honey wears Mat, which smells nice because it’s not so common here. Nothing is worse than having everyone you pass wearing the same perfume as your wife.

Gina De Venecia, civic-minded lady:
My favorite scent is Jessica McClintock. I love it because it makes me feel young and fresh, just like a debutante.

Korina B. Sanchez, anchor, TV Patrol:
I used to use only Escada Blue Sport. I’ve recently switched to Spring Flower by Creed – feminine but powerful, not overpowering, and uncommon. For men I like Gree Irish Tweed also by Creed. The likes of Prince Charles, Robert Redford and Clint Eastwood use this scent! Need I say more?

Pia Guanio, TV host:
I like Creed for both men and women. Romances by RL is also one of my favorites. And the most recent Bulgari for women.

David Jacobs, president and CEO, Marsh Philippines, Inc.:
My favorite scent is Bulgari for men (original). It’s a very clean and refined scent. Not overpowering but goes the distance.

For women, I like L’Occitane Green Tea and L’Artisan Parfumeur Mure et Musc. These scents are appealing and intriguing.
