No one is happy all the time. What makes us human is we experience a gamut of emotions, from happiness to sadness and everything in between.
We get the blues, just as we get the bliss. We go through trials and hopefully come out a better and wiser person. Find out how some people cope and chase away the blues.
TROY MONTERO, actor: If Im feeling blue, I go shopping. Nothing beats spending the day buying things you dont really need.
MARITONI FERNANDEZ, actress: Work out at the gym! It always picks me up!
KATRINA PONCE ENRILE, chief operating officer, JAKA Group of Companies: I stay quiet for a while and then I stop feeding my negative feelings. I guard what goes into my mind and heart. I also go and play with my children and talk to my husband James, who always manages to make me laugh. But you know what? Sometimes crying helps. Then you move on and put it pass you.
CATHY SANTA MARIA ESCANO, former model: When the blues set in, I need solitude a chance to be alone in a place where nothing is asked of me and where the only voice I hear is my own. Time-outs are not only for kids. When I crave for more than the sound of silence, I listen to music it can be a powerful form of prayer, meditation and healing. Discovering ones creative genius through crafts and sharing this knowledge with others also have therapeutic benefits. When all else fails, I seek out the company of my children Ignacio and Rocio and Im at once reminded that play is essential to well-being. The irrepressible laughter and immeasurable joy they bring is guaranteed to chase the blues away!
JOEL TORRE, director/actor: First, accept the problem. Do meditative prayers. Believe its temporary because we are given problems we can solve. Take it one day at a time, you have nowhere to go but up. Get support from family and friends.
Housing Secretary MIKE DEFENSOR: When Im down and out... I go up and in. When I have the blues...I turn red. When Im depressed...I oppress. Kidding aside, I go to the Blessed Sacrament and pray. My family gives me strength and happiness. I try to be with them. In many of the challenges that I have faced, God and family have been my guiding light and source of courage. When all else fails, I play with myself.
DSWD Secretary DINKY SOLIMAN: Have a nice massage by my husband. Eat comfort food like Spam na malutong. Talk to God. Do something crazy like sing in the rain.
KEREN PASCUAL, publicist: I havent felt down in ages, but when I am, I go for a hot oil and foot massage at Piandre. If that doesnt work, I pass by the church in Greenbelt. If I still feel down, I call a friend and pig out in North Park. If it still doesnt work, I just go to sleep and hopefully when I wake up, Id feel better.
POPS FERNANDEZ, actress/singer: When Im down, I usually call up friends and have dinner with them and talk about fun things all night long. Or I go to the salon to have a hot oil and blow dry.
