Worst things people do in life

LIVING ALIVE - LIVING ALIVE By Dero Pedero -
Life is passing by.

Time waits for no one. The carousel of existence keeps on turning and spinning, leaving us clueless as to why we are here. Most of us are stuck in ruts we have created for ourselves, imprisoned in bars we have woven and welded in our minds, disabled by imagined inadequacies and insecurities, and rendered powerless by self-defeating attitudes. Before we know it, the sunset of life comes and leaves us with a rapidly dimming glow of failure and regret.

There are many things we do that keep us from living a rich and full life. The ironic part is that we have the power to vanquish and eradicate them yet we choose to be suffocated by their claws. Before we can totally escape their clutches, we need to be aware of them first and realize the fact that they are strangling and ruining our lives.

Here are some of the worst things we do in life. Which ones are you a victim of?

• Being afraid of failure

Fear is the worst enemy of learning and achieving. Fear clamps up and closes the mind, and once the mind is closed, it won’t be receptive to anything and won’t function optimally. Most people are afraid to try because they are afraid to fail. You have to face the demons of your fears and lick them to live a dynamic, successful life.

• Wasting time and procrastinating

The hours fly by swiftly and we usually find ourselves with no achievement to show, no laurels to be proud of at the end of the day. Time is an abstract factor that directly rules our lives. Either you use it or you lose it. Procrastinating builds time debt. Maximize the present. The sands of time disappear into eternity never to come back again.

• Living in the past

A lot of people live in the past. They harbor hurts, bad memories and ill feelings that they encountered yesterday. They dwell on negative things that weigh them down and make living for them a heavy drudgery. Learn to let bygones be gone for good so you can walk with a bounce to a bright future!

• Putting your dreams on hold

Every man’s famous last words are "Someday." "Someday, I’ll try it. Someday I’ll do it when things get better." Well, things aren’t going to get better. But they just might if you only went down and did what your heart has been longing to do but you’ve been postponing for the longest time. Putting your dreams on hold puts your life on indefinite pause.

• Not loving yourself enough

When you don’t love yourself enough, you’d settle for anything life throws your way. You’d have to love yourself a lot to believe that you deserve the very best life has to offer. Love yourself totally and unconditionally. Be aware who you are, come to terms with what you are, and love yourself 100 percent!

• Having no dream.

Having no dream guarantees a no-direction, no-destination life. Although it sounds poetic, drifting on the ebb tide of life is tantamount to throwing your existence to the whims of chance. Life is a series of minute-to-minute decisions ’ each fork you encounter along the road brings you someplace different. You need a dream to guide you which road to choose every time.

• Leading a purposeless life

There is nothing more senseless than living a life without purpose. It is important to define your intention to fully comprehend the why and the what-for of everything you do. Know the reasons behind your thoughts and actions. A purposeless life has no significance. A life with a purpose is filled with great meaning.

• Being too selfish

You will find out sooner or later that life is all about sharing yourself and what you have with others. There is nothing more satisfying than the joy you get from giving. Whatever you give gets multiplied, and whatever you keep you lose. You came with nothing and you are going to go without anything. You really have no choice but to give it all away!

• Having a warped sense of values

Your values are the top principles you live your life by. They define your beliefs, your desires, what you consider right or wrong, and what you deem most important in life. You must have a clear picture of these and give them priority in your everyday existence. To define your sense of values, listen to the voice of your conscience.

• Not taking full responsibility for everything you do

Most people do not realize the extent of events one little seemingly insignificant action can trigger. It is a world governed by the Law of Cause and Effect, and everything we do affects somebody or something else. Take responsibility for everything you do so you will be more careful about whatever you do.

• Thinking small

Why do most of us think small when all of us are blessed with limitless imagination’ Why do we settle for mediocrity when we are capable of achieving the colossal and sublime’ You do yourself a great disservice when you say, "I can’t do it!" You must think big and believe in yourself to achieve great things!

• Waiting for fate to do it for you

No one will live your life for you and no one will achieve your dreams for you but you. You have to steer your little ship in the direction of your dreams and goals. Do not wait for the winds of fate to blow your sails. What if they blew in a direction away from what you consider important in your life’ Design your own life, create your own opportunities, and build your own destiny!

THE PEDERO SUCCESS SEMINAR

If you must attend just one seminar in your whole life, I recommend that you come to "Make Your Impossible Dreams Come True." It is the first and only success seminar of its kind in the Philippines (and possibly the whole world!) and you’ll know what I mean once you join. I have attended countless seminars (I have been such a seminar rat!) here, in Los Angeles and in New York, and I tell you, this seminar is different! Of course, I may be biased, so come and judge for yourself.

"Make Your Impossible Dreams Come True!" is a fast-paced multi-media presentation that has to be experienced in person. People who have attended it could not possibly fully explain to others how it feels to be in it. Besides, most would rather stay quiet and keep secret the powerful success principles and techniques I reveal in the seminar.

I am really proud of this seminar because what I teach, they don’t teach in colleges and universities. I impart ideas and concepts gleaned from voracious reading and learning, and draw from my own brand of wisdom honed from having lived for over half a century. (There, I gave away my age! Happy now, Dr. Henry Yu?)

I recommend that you bring a pen and paper if you intend to take notes during the session. I encourage participants to write down not so much the things that I say, but the personal revelations that click in their minds while listening. I call these the "Aha! moments" ’ sparks of enlightenment that have direct impact and significance in the person’s life.

Whatever your dream is, whether it is to land a great job, meet the love of your life, build your dream home, travel abroad, or to be a millionaire, you will certainly be steps closer to it after attending the seminar than if you had just stayed home and waited. It is the best gift you can give yourself and your loved ones. It is inspiring and life changing, fast-paced and entertaining. You’d wonder why nobody ever offered it before!

See you at the seminar on either May 22, 23, 29 or 30. We will have some real fun!

ANAGRAM MANIA

The answers to our anagram puzzle two weeks ago are: "September eleven two thousand and one" and "world trade center". Jovita Ramos, Clh Baguio VI, Ferdz Perez, Opel, Wolly Ison, Romil M. Relingo and Romy Faylona cracked them even with the typographical error in one of the phrases. They used the other clue "they are related to each other" to solve the puzzle. Great going, guys!

GOODBYE, ERIC!

Eric Catipon, one of our best-loved Philippine Star writer-artists, joined the Creator last Thursday morning. He sketched most of the colorful and thoroughly appropriate art works for this column. He was also one of the most musical persons I’ve ever met and could name any tune from the 20s to the present. Please say a little prayer for Eric. Eric, we will surely miss your infectious smile, great articles and witty illustrations!
