What makes you feel guilty?

Guilt is a powerful emotion. It can move us to action or it can stop us.
Nobody likes to feel guilty but everybody experiences it at one time or another whether its from an act that hurt others, words that we should not have said to a loved one or a friend, or from keeping our silence when we should have spoken. Sometimes, we even feel guilty for something that is beyond our control.
Guilt makes us rethink and reassess the situation and ourselves. As universal as this emotion is, different things make different people feel guilty.
Frannie Jacinto, homemaker: Devouring lechon makes me feel guilty but I cant help it when its on the table. I have a hearty appetite and I can eat more than my share. Good thing pork isnt served in my home but when I see it in other places it is the first thing I go for.
Sari Ortiga, managing director, Golay Buchel Philippines, Inc.: I feel guilty when our company is downsizing and I have to retrench someone who is more honest and more hardworking than I am.
Gina De Venecia, president/chairperson, Congressional Spouses Foundation, Inc.: Whenever I tell a lie, a really bad lie.
Senator Ping Lacson: I feel guilty when I see people wallowing in disparity in our society, knowing that not enough is being done to bridge the gap.
Gary Lising, comedian and author, Green and Bear It and One Liner for All Occasions: I feel guilty when our courts declare a known person who is guilty, not guilty.
John Estrada, TV host, Magandang Tanghali Bayan: When I make promises I do not fulfill.
Nini Ramos Licaros, businesswoman: When I see those mendicants in the streets and Im torn as to whether I should give them money or not. It breaks my heart because my advocacy before was that we should give money to the proper agencies so as not encourage the kids to beg. But I still give sometimes, after all whats P20? Its like the man who I see on crutches whenever I go to mass. At first I didnt give him any money but my conscience kept bothering me. The next time I saw him I decided to give him some money.
Mel Meer, businessman: I feel guilty when I tell white lies, but I do it to avoid hurting other peoples feelings.
Jon Santos, comedian and TV host, Sarap TV: I used to feel guilty all the time, as in 24 hours a day. But too much guilt is such a waste of spirit. And over time, I have learned to love myself more. Now I feel guilty 22 hours a day na lang.
Tetta Ortiz Matera, owner, La Piadina: When I am doing homework with my daughter Riana and shes not in the moodshe prefers to play so sometimes it takes her long to answer. I often get upset and lose my temper. These are the times I feel guiltythen I realize she is just a kid and that I should be patient with her.
