Boracay beckons

Boracay has always held a special place in my familys heart. Way back when it was a little-known island paradise, I already realized that it offered a reinvigorating respite from stress.
Having stayed in Boracay so often, I would like to believe that I know the island very well. So whenever I am asked, I can offer a thoughtful suggestion of places that will surely give one a delightful stay there.
Right at the center of the powdery white strip is the Boracay Regency Beach Resort, a 51-room Mediterranean-inspired hotel-resort owned by entrepreneur Henry Chusuey.
That the hotel-resort has become a favorite vacation place of celebrities and the social set is quite understandable. The world-famous beach is spectacular to behold from ones balcony in the hotel. The turquoise waters are just outside its doors, the food is irresistibly mouth-watering, and the plush accommodations, simply superb.
The hotels air-conditioned and completely equipped rooms are tastefully finished in bamboo and rattan, and boast of plush appointments like cable TV, a mini bar, IDD/NDD phones with extensions into the bathroom the works.
My family time and again stays here. Celebrities like Kris Aquino and son Josh, Diether Ocampo, Joyce Jimenez, Sen. Serge Osmeña and many more, usually book themselves and their staff here.
Believe me, the food there is glorious. My children and grandchildren enjoy the varied fare so much, Im always worried that theyll sink in the sand after partaking of all the sumptuous fare. Martin and Chris, for example, swear by the crabs and prawns thermidor and the crispy pata. Their children swear by the grilled chicken and fresh fruit juices.
EJ loves the daily fresh catch of the day. He also delights in the hotels array of Continental cuisine. His wife Tess, meanwhile, enjoys the fresh chilled island juices. My grandchildren Tara, Gel, Weejay and Bel for their part delight in the shrimps, grilled chicken, kare-kare and the Regencys fusion preparations of Korean, Chinese and Spanish cuisine.
In the evening, we head to the breezy, poolside parties at the Alfonsos bar and dine al fresco, enjoying their delectable grilled and barbecue specials. Others prefer to hobnob with the gorgeous celebs and personalities or to sip island concoctions and chilled cocktails and wines.
Henry Chusuey is one of those entrepreneurs who have helped boost local tourism. As I relax in my room, I take in the breathtaking view of Boracay from my balcony and wish him and other resort owners continued drive to promote the island as a world-class destination!
Happy birthday to our celebrators today: Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay and actress Janice de Belen.
Belated happy birthday to the Philippine STARs Sonny Boy Oriondo, Nov. 8.
Advanced birthday greetings to Madeleine Oriondo, Nov. 12; Doris Magsaysay-Ho and Mila Magsaysay Valenzuela, Nov. 14; Makati Rep. Teodoro "Teddyboy" Locsin and Snapshots Chris Litton, Nov. 15; and Manoling Morato, Nov. 17.
So, how was your week?
