LOWE'S opening its doors in San Francisco

-

Mooresville, N.C. - The first Lowe’s store within the city of San Francisco, home to many Asian Americans, will open at 491 Bayshore Blvd. on Friday, bringing 200 store jobs and a significant investment to the Bayview/Hunter’s Point neighborhood and surrounding areas.

“We are excited to bring the Lowe’s experience closer to home for the residents of San Francisco,” said Gina Meacham, Lowe’s of San Francisco’s store manager. “We look forward to being a good neighbor by bringing jobs to the community, providing the products local residents want and need, and supporting community causes that are important to our employees and customers.”

The grand opening celebration, including Lowe’s board-cutting ceremony, will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4. Also on that day, the store will host a Gift Card Match Day, during which customers can purchase a Lowe’s Gift Card and Lowe’s will match purchases of gift cards up to $5,000 to support Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco’s next building project.

Lowe’s is proud to offer 32,000 products under one roof. The home improvement store will have 80,000 square feet of retail sales space. An additional 11,000 square foot garden center will offer an impressive selection of flowers, bushes, trees and garden supplies tailored to the California climate and lifestyle.

The new store represents an investment in this richly diverse community of more than $50 million, and it has created approximately 200 store jobs.

Lowe’s is committed to serving communities where it does business. In 2009, Lowe’s and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation contributed more than $30 million to support educational and community projects across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In the San Francisco area, Lowe’s and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF) have supported the community in the following ways:

· LCEF is giving the Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club a $50,000 grant to increase energy efficiency of its gym and enhance its art studio and baseball field.

· Lowe’s Heroes helped spruce up Malcolm X Academy in September with new paint and landscaping using a $2,900 LCEF grant and product donations of an additional $3,600.

· Through its national partnership with Teach for America, Lowe’s is sponsoring 10 core members teaching in San Francisco schools.

· Rebuilding Together of San Francisco received a $15,775 LCEF grant to help five homeowners in the Bayview/Hunter’s Point area weatherize their homes.

· In the past year, five public schools in the city of San Francisco have received Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grants ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. The schools are Sheridan Elementary, Academy of Arts and Sciences, Grattan Elementary, Paul Revere Elementary and Buena Vista Elementary.

Lowe’s continues to make a strong impact in the Asian American Community—through various efforts such as offering helpful home improvement related how-to videos to conducting relevant Asian/Filipino-themed promotional events, to designing the first-ever Asian Gift Card available online and in stores. Lowe’s fosters a solid, interactive relationship with its Asian American customers to address their home improvement needs.
