How to dress up the season
Penciling in parties and gift-buying errands into your digital organizer alone can seem like enough of a chore. What about actually running around like a headless chicken at the mall, searching for the perfect gift for your label-loving little sis while perusing the racks for the ideal frock for the family reunion come Christmas that won’t have your grandmother clucking over your singlehood?
Before you resign yourself to recycling gifts and outfits this season, head to shops like Topshop, Warehouse, Topman and Dorothy Perkins for a selection of clothing and potential gifts perfect for making merry.
We break down the trends and looks that’ll take you to the top of the gift-giving community.
Dorothy Perkins
Gem-hued party dresses take on a more luxurious level with embellished elements and lots of ruffles and pleats. Statement dressing gets an update with the label’s selection of plum party picks that should make you the life of every merry-making event this December.
Topman
Hoodies, skinny jeans and plaid round out Topman’s fall collection. A merry mix of fail-safe military jackets make the perfect gift for big brother or The Boss, while a medley of plaid shirts and stonewashed denim make for versatile party gear for the coming weeks of endless cocktails at friends’ homes and bodysurfing at concerts.
Topshop
Equal parts circus freak, rock chick and socialite wannabe color Topshop’s latest collection of holiday hits. According to Topshop, these are the hits: “Playful, Piro-esque clown collars over neat, structured organza dresses and Harlequin and club scatter-print silk dresses jostle with velvet polka dots on full skate skirts and flirty knife-pleat chiffon blouses. A faded circus-print tee and black tux jacket are paired down against an otherwise vivid palette of saturated red, pink, Yves Klein and royal blue and mint.”
Warehouse
A little jazzy 1920s decadence serves as inspiration for Warehouse’s style template. Floor-length dresses with vintage hints of satin and chiffon in emerald bring to mind more old world festivities. Jewel-encrusted busts, jacquards and lace prints bring life to velvet frocks and silk dresses. Romance is in the air at Warehouse. For the season, the label suggests decking out in plenty of ruffles, frills and sequins for a shiny, shimmering finish.
