Let's go birdwatching
MANILA, Philippines - While everyone, both young and old, are getting head over heels with the characters of the recently popular computer game Angry Birds, Haribon Foundation is giving people a chance to see for themselves actual living, breathing birds that are both stranger and family to the country. Haribon conducts birdwatching activities for existing and prospective members every third Saturday of the month.
Today, Haribon birdwatchers get the chance to visit Candaba Swamp in Pampanga, an important migratory watering hole for migratory and resident birds and one of the country’s important biodiversity areas. At this time of the month, many migratory birds and fowls like great egrets, moorhens and mallards come from as far as the Siberian region in Russia, China and Japan to escape the winter chill and roost, eat and breed at Candaba’s inviting waters.
The next schedule of bird watching trips are today in Angat Dam and March 17 at Jalajala in Rizal. In the coming months, target bird-watching points include Mt. Palay-palay in Cavite; Bangkang Kahoy in Dolores, Quezon; Silang, Cavite (for kids); Subic; Mt. Makiling in Los Baños, and Dumaguete. Other target sites in the offering include Palaui, Calaguas, Nueva Ecija, Bukidnon, Olango and Mt. Kitanglad.
Haribon Foundation is at 973 Aurora Boulevard, second floor Santos & Sons Building, Cubao, Quezon City.
