Blood Moon to appear in 'Maria Clara at Ibarra'
MANILA, Philippines — It is not only the real world that is looking forward to tonight's Blood Moon.
TV's hottest heroine, nursing student Klay (Barbie Forteza) has been waiting for a chance to go back to the real world after she was transported inside the world of Dr. Jose Rizal's "Noli Me Tangere."
"Maria Clara at Ibarra" will feature a Blood Moon or Total Lunar Eclipse in tonight's episode.
Klay has been told by Prof. Torres (Lou Veloso) that she must go up the bell tower of fictional San Diego once the Blood Moon appears. It is one of the rare chances that she will be able to go back to the real world where her mother Narcisa (Manilyn Reynes) and her brother Elias are already looking for her.
It has been presumably a month or so since Klay was absorbed into the book where she met the titular characters, the engaged couple, Maria Clara (Julie Anne San Jose) and Crisostomo Ibarra (Dennis Trillo), as well as the other characters from the novel, notably the friars Padre Damaso (Tirso Cruz III) and Padre Salvi (Juancho Triviño). She also meets Fidel (David Licauco), Ibarra's bestfriend, with whom she often exchanges clashing viewpoints and beliefs.
The once disinterested nursing student who questioned the relevance of "Noli Me Tangere" to the study and pursuit of nursing now finds herself in a dilemma if she really wants to leave its world behind. She has witnessed the absolute power the friars have over the lives of both wealthy and poor Filipinos.
The tragedy of Sisa (Andrea Torres) and her kids, Crispin (Kian Co) and Basilio (Stanley Abuloc), left a deep mark on her. Klay still nurses the emotional wounds she got after witnessing Sisa's slow descent to madness brought about by the loss of her two sons.
The teaser preview of tonight's episode sees Klay on her way to the bell tower waiting for the portal to open. Ibarra and Sisa were apprehended by the guardia civil for breaking the 9 p.m. curfew. Sisa, who has already succumbed to the darkness, suddenly shouts "Basilio," after seeing an image of a boy resembling her son running away from them. Klay was on the act of going into the portal when she hears a gunshot.
It seems Klay's concern for Sisa will be a test of her resolve — will she leave the beloved book characters to their predestined ends or will she choose to change what Rizal had written?

Viewers will find out if Klay will push through with her plan to go home to her real world or choose to stay and try to disrupt the book's original story.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said tonight's Total Lunar Eclipse will begin at moonrise at 5:19 p.m., with the totality of the eclipse beginning at 6:16 p.m. Greatest eclipse (maximum) or the peak stage of the eclipse will be at 6:59 p.m. The moon will remain in totality until 7:42 p.m. It will then go into a partial eclipse until 8:49 p.m. and comes to an end at 9:58 p.m.
The Total Lunar Eclipse will be visible in the Philippines as well as in places where the moon is above the horizon, including Asia, Australia, North America, parts of Northern and Eastern Europe, and most of South America.
The PAGASA Astronomical Observatory will livestream the Blood Moon or Total Lunar Eclipse via the PAGASA Official Facebook Page and PAGASA YouTube channel.
"Maria Clara at Ibarra" airs weeknights at around 8 p.m. after "24 Oras" on GMA-7.
