Philippines serves 4,046-kg lechon, breaks world record
MANILA, Philippines - With a total weight of 4,046 kilos, Philippines has set another world record for serving the biggest "lechon" or roast pork.
“Lechon,” a Spanish term, which means roasted suckling pig has been a symbol for feast for most Filipinos. It is a desired dish that brings all the people in the community together.
As part of the 16th anniversary of Calata Corporation, the event also served as celebratory feast and an early Christmas treat for the less privileged residents of Metro Manila. The amount of pork served could feed more than 15,000 people.

“This year, we celebrated our 16 successful years in the business by giving back to the community instead of having a lavish party. This is a very momentous occasion for the Philippines, to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest serving of lechon’,” shared Joseph Calata, Chairman and CEO of Calata Corporation.
The previous record was held by Mexico where they served 3,094.2 kilos of cochinita pibil, a popular roast pork dish in Yucatan region.
The event was held at the Liwasang Aurora, Quezon City Memorial Circle, facilitated by Guinness World Records adjudicator Lucia Singagliesi.
