5 things we know about Maine Mendoza's 'hacker'

Alixandra Caole Vila - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - What does Maine Mendoza have in common with Angelica Panganiban, Daniel Padilla and Toni Gonzaga? Her social media pages was hacked.

The Twitter account of "Eat Bulaga" mainstay was hacked at around one in the morning on Tuesday, by a group that claims to  be from Anonymous Philippines.

A series of other tweets were also posted, including an information about an anti-corruption protest dubbed the Million Mask March this coming November 5.

We do not know for sure if the only reason for the hacking is to inform the public about their upcoming protest, but here are other things we know about the group that allegedly hacked Maine's Twitter account:

  1. Anonymous Philippines is a hacking group that has been responsible for some of the biggest cyber attacks in the country.
  2. The group claims to be speaking for the voiceless, pushing for freedom, denouncing corruption and other issues Filipinos have on Internet connection.
  3. On 2014, the group hacked the website of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), claiming that they are one with Filipinos who are compromised by the turtle-like internet speed in the country. They also called for fair charging and servicing of data services in the country.
  4. In response to the claim of China on disputed territories in the South China Sea, they hacked 195 Chinese websites on the same year as well, sending a loud message of disgust.
  5. Their upcoming march on November 5 is not the first march they've ever done. On November 2013, the group, wearing black and masks stood still for an hour outside the House of Representatives in Quezon City, while doing anti-government chants.

Maine Mendoza's Twitter account has recently been tagged as one of the  fastest-growing celebrity profiles on Twitter worldwide for September, placing her behind two of the world's most famous singers, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
