Accessorizing the French coquette

- Cecile Van Straten -

MANILA, Philippines - For Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2010 collection, artistic director Marc Jacobs draws inspiration from a French coquette — or “leggy creature in sequined boots, roaming the Riviera or off to a chic safari, passing through urban asphalt jungles or stretches of sand.”

Jacobs combines naval stripes and playful polka dots to create retro-chic bikinis for the French Riviera.

Elegantly impertinent accessories include the bow-embellished fingerless gloves in black or red leather, and rope and gold metal fashion jewellery.

High or low boots embellished with gold and black sequins and cutouts at the heel are the “It” shoes of the season.

On the classic side are retro-glam stilettos embellished in delicate leather roses and tulle.

Pair these with an evening bag called the Minaudière Trésor in studded calf leather.

The 2010 Cruise Collection spotlights the Monogram Bulles, a body-hugging hobo bag in bubble-textured navy or beige nylon printed with the Monogram motif. It comes in three sizes, with a hope and leather handle.

On the practical yet classic side, the iconic Alma comes back in a bold black Epi Electrique.

Even bolder are the sequined Mini Noé Rococo in gold or black with the rope handles. Look closely and you’ll see each sequin is stamped with the tiny LV logo, while a gold metal “Louis Vuitton Inventeur” plaque testifies to its heritage.
