Behold,” a solo exhibition by award-winning visual artist Angelo Tabije, ushers in more mature brushstrokes in seven paintings that express a more spiritual state, honoring the simple act of being alive and finding beauty in our impermanence, and being able to paint to fulfill his highest artistic passion.

Tabije may not be strongly religious in nature, but these framed parables reflect man’s supreme individuality as highlighted in his nurturing nature, felt as one embraces responsibility during their stay on earth. Executed in a raw and spontaneous visual style, “Behold” is a result of gathering inspiring thoughts during these times. The result solidifies Tabije’s stature in the art scene. The show reflects an existentialist stance as the artist exalts in surviving one more day, a remaining presence for his family, friends, and to humanity.

“Behold” veers away from the usual theme of “man and machine” that Tabije has been known for. Waxing philosophical, the artist acknowledges something greater than the self — that there’s more to being human than sensory experiences, and that we are part of a bigger cosmic or divine universe. “Man is the only animal that blushes,” Mark Twain said, and in that capacity, Tabije finds, lies his power to make the world better than when he found it.
