Four friends and a ’70s party

- Honey Jarque Loop - The Philippine Star

A decade ago, three distinguished gentlemen, Ed Gonzalez, Tony Lozada, Jos Moraza   and bubbly lady Maricar Perdices,  all  childhood friends, jointly celebrated their birthdays at the Casino Español de Cebu.

Having turned 70 years old this year, the celebrants once again hosted a ‘70s themed party at the same venue. This time around Margie Taylor, returning resident from America also joined them. Over 300 close  friends and relatives came for the occasion.

The festivities began with a thanksgiving Mass. Shortly after, champagne and a variety of wines were served  with appetizing  pica-picas. And as always Casino Español de Cebu served authentic  Spanish dishes the club is known for with chef Rico Villarante at the helm.

Each celebrant took to the stage and thanked the attendees, some of whom flew in from America and Europe for taking  the time to be with them on such joyous milestone.

For all the blessings that have come their way, the celebrators wanted to give back and requested guests that in lieu of gifts, donations be made instead to the Community Scouts of Rotary Club of Cebu and the Gualandi Effata, a Catholic school for the hearing impaired.

Lots of singing capped the celebration, highlighted by adorable grandchildren, Ariana Gonzalez, Dominic Paulsen, Andres Sarmiento, each representing the children of Ed Gonzalez and Therese Gonzalez, together with Maricar Perdices’  grandchildren Mariano, Lorenzo and  Karolina performing showstoppers.

The blissful get-together lasted all night with the celebrants reminiscing old times with their friends and everyone swinging to the music of band Purple Notes and JV Rhythm.
