Experience the fine art of ramen at Ippudo Manila

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Ippudo is a gallery of the noodle culture, displaying traditional noodle bowls and spoons, and a traditional clay feature wall from Hakata, the birthplace of Ippudo.

Shigemi Kawahara, popularly known as the “Ramen King,” made a grand impact with his original interior design and tonkotsu ramen. The classy shop interior with his heavy emphasis on wood is like a wood sculptor’s studio yet kept sparking clean with modern jazz playing in the background. The attention to detail and hospitable service translate to quality dining in a modest establishment with décor and ambiance that hint at sophistication and quality.

The driving factor of the interior design was to encompass the passion and integrity of the Ippudo family, while creating an exciting and timeless design. The design of the Manila restaurant seeks to create a warm and inviting interior that not only enhances the dining experience but also displays a modern interpretation of the traditional Japanese setting.

Ippudo is known for crafted dishes. The noodle-making process is part of the experience, with photos and books about the routine and recipe. This meticulous attention to detail carries from the food to the interior, where great detail is seen in the application of natural finishes. The interior is exciting and natural — the gentle timber curves are welcoming, the overall experience is a unique and modern interpretation of dining in Japan.

Ippudo is set to open on Sept. 10 at the 3rd Level of the Megamall Fashion Hall.
