Paul Pogba of Brazil wins Hyundai Young Player Award

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) has announced the winner for the coveted “Hyundai Young Player Award” of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Paul Pogba is a 21-year-old Juventus star.

According to FIFA, aside from scoring a crucial headed goal against Nigeria in the Round of 16, the energetic Frenchman has been an influential figure throughout Les Bleus’ Brazil 2014 venture. Alongside Yohann Cabaye and Blaise Matuidi, he consistently demonstrated his power and ball-winning skills, as well as his excellent technique, dribbling ability and great footballing brain.

Pogba has continued where he left off at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, where he  won the Golden Ball award. The young midfield dynamo finishes ahead of Dutchman Memphis Depay and compatriot Raphael Varane.

First awarded in 2006, the Hyundai Young Player Award is one of the official FIFA awards and is selected by the Technical Study Group, a FIFA-appointed group of top football coaches, former players and analysts. Those past two awards were coincidentally both handed out to German players.
