A night of wine, beer and song
The Ordre Mondial a segment of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, the International Association of Gastronomy, was founded in Paris on Sept. 2, 1963. It specializes in and concentrates on wines, spirits and liqueurs. Its goal is to promote and enhance the enjoyment — as well as a better understanding and comprehensive knowledge — of fine wines and quality spirits from around the globe.
A major task of Ordre Mondial is to organize dinners, tastings, conferences, competitions, meetings and events focusing on wine and drinks and, where applicable, accompanied by the appropriate dishes. It likewise encourages and fosters an understanding and appreciation of wines and spirits, which is valued by Ordre Mondial members and their guests.
Recently David Sharpe, active vice echanson of the Ordre Mondial Cebu, organized a fun fellowship for members and their guests at the City Sports Club Cebu, Ayala Business Park.
The event, which was less formal than those of the Chaine, had practically everyone grabbing the microphone and belting a few lines or two. Winglip Chang, maître restaurateur and a good singer, entertained those present with a few Broadway hits. Joining him were his amiable wife Pinky Chang, Mike Smith, Alan and Lisa Mill Irving and Luis Moro.
The careful matching of the wine and food and the detailed preparations that went into the preparation of dishes created by executive chef Brian Bersonda made it the most enjoyable Ordre Mondial event thus far. Outstanding wines that night included Chateau La Rose Brisson-Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2006, a wonderful structure with a lingering finish, and Cortedelle Calli Prosecco, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2008. Stella Artois, a Belgian beer and one of the prominent brands of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewer, was also served.
