Cebu bids adieu to French artist Delphine Groult de Lorme

- Honey Jarque Loop - The Philippine Star

Highly-spirited, French pop-art painter Delphine Groult de Lorme was born in Paris and raised by a family of artists. Painting is her passion, and by age 17 she sold her first artwork. Before devoting her time fully to painting she studied theater and spent over 15 years in the fascinating world of TV directing in Paris.

Happily married to TV producer Henri, the adventurous couple and their three children traveled to Asia and soon found themselves in Cebu.  As expected they loved and embraced the Cebuano hospitality and made it their home for seven years.

However, with their yearning to experience other Asian cultures, the de Lormes once again packed their belongings and  set their eyes on Myanmar.  Before bidding adieu to Cebu, Delphine exhibited her works one last time at the chic boutique Henry Hotel owned by dear friends Detlef and May Ernst in uptown Cebu.

The exhibit consisted mainly of pop culture icons and vintage movie posters painted in bright colors of mixed media. Delphine takes her inspiration from  pop artists Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Peter Blake,  Mimmo Rotella, an Italian artist and poet famous for his works of decollage and geographics made from torn advertising posters, and Jasper Johns, an American contemporary artist known for his artistic use of classical iconography.

Also on display were some furniture such as baroque-style dressers with oriental imagery  and customized antique pieces she collected in flea markets during her long stay in Paris.

The exhibit and cocktail party had a pleasant mix of art enthusiasts, avid photographers, artists and designers, and the well-heeled ladies in attendance.
