Aegis promotes a healthier planet
MANILA, Philippines - Aegis, an outsourcing services provider and part of the $17-billion Essar Group, honors its commitment to Mother Earth through its global corporate social responsibility initiative “Happy World.”
“At Aegis, we are committed to sustainable operations and ensure that a green way of living is cascaded to our stakeholders worldwide. We are proud to have made a positive and visible difference to the world, a practice we intend to continue with great passion,” said Aparup Sengupta , MD and Global CEO, Aegis.
Proof of this is the company’s recent achievement of an A+ rating in Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) Sustainability Report. In order to secure the A+ rating, Aegis fulfilled all 79 indicators set by GRI under environmental practices, economic performance, labor practices, human rights, society performance, and product responsibilities.
Aegis also actively supports various global campaigns such as Earth Hour and Earth Day across the globe and partners with environmental organizations and institutions such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The entire Aegis community in the Philippines took a pledge for the environment in support of WWF’s yearly global Earth Hour celebrations, the world’s largest voluntary action for the environment. The activity underscores the organization’s involvement in initiatives dedicated to creating a Healthier Planet as part of its Happy World initiatives.
According to Rajiv Ahuja, president–ASEAN and ANZ, Aegis Limited, “It makes us proud knowing that more than a thousand employees participated in the ceremonial switch-off which required all Aegis facilities across Manila, Cebu and Baguio to turn off lights for an hour. It highlights Aegis’ commitment to creating a culture of energy and environment conservation to address the issue of climate and sustainability for a Healthier Planet.”
As Aegis expands its business footprint on a global level, processes and practices are being adapted to regional requirements. Sustainable practices continue to be incorporated across all new business ventures, ensuring long term profitability in conjunction with social and environmental development.
