Noted British architect holds 'green' seminar, unveils book in Mapúa
MANILA, Philippines - Distinguished Singapore-based British architect Jason Pomeroy visited Manila recently and conducted a one-day lecture on green building design and practices at the Mapúa Institute of Technology.
The event, which aimed to promote Pomeroy’s advocacy of green building and design, coincided with the launch and signing of his new book, Idea House: Future Tropical Living Today. The architect and author, in his lecture, shared new insights in green building and design, introducing a number of sustainable solutions and innovations to both professional practitioners and members of the academe who were present at the event.
Pomeroy is the man behind the award-winning Idea House, the first carbon-zero house in Southeast Asia, regarded by many as the prototype for future sustainable living.
He is also the director of international design firm Broadway Malyan, running its Singapore office, and is the founder of the Broadway Malyan Research and Development Studio, an organization that promotes green building and design.
Pomeroy is engaged in several projects across the region. He is currently working on the masterplan for the 80,000-acre Vision Valley in Malaysia as well as the design of Singapore’s National Heart Centre. In the Philippines, Pomeroy works for Century Properties and has designed the firm’s high-end projects including the Milano Residences and the 65-storey Trump Towers.
Pomeroy also serves as adjunct professor at University Teknologi Malaysia and at the Mapúa Institute of Technology. In addition, Pomeroy holds honorary professorship at Nottingham University. He has been published widely, and currently sits at the editorial board of the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
