The Filipino Heritage Festival at the SM Supermalls
MANILA, Philippines - Mallgoers got a rare opportunity to experience our country’s rich cultural heritage and musical tradition as the SM Supermalls recently celebrated the Filipino Heritage Festival.
This project of SM and the Filipino Heritage Festival Inc., together with the Office of the President, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Department of Tourism, and Air 21, showcased a series of exhibits.
The Filipino Heritage Festival at SM was launched at SM City North EDSA and at SM City Bicutan. The North EDSA launch, which featured the “Banig” exhibit and a performance by the Philippine Opera Company, was graced by Ambassador Hatice Pinar Isik of the Embassy of Turkey, and Ambassador Selverajah of the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore together with Consul Antonio Rufino, and Mr. and Mrs. Toshi Morita.
The SM City Bicutan launch, on the other hand, featured the Philippine Fiestas exhibit and performances by the PUP Banda Kawayan with Paranaque second district Rep. Roilo Golez and Philippine Fiestas author and photographer Donald Tapan and Apple Tapan-Serrano as guests. Filipino Heritage Festival Inc. president Armita Rufino and treasurer Chichi Salas were welcomed by SM officials — vice president for marketing Millie Dizon and regional operations manager Renee Bacani in North EDSA and assistant mall manager Mariano Arroyo Jr. in Bicutan.
A joint project of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the private sector represented by the Filipino Heritage Festival Inc. this year’s theme is “Taoid: Weaving Our Stories, Threading our Paths.”
The Filipino Heritage Festival Celebration is one of the many exciting cultural events at the SM Supermalls.
