House of paint

OOH LA LAI - Lai S. Reyes -

Painting is one of the quickest, easiest, and most economical ways to give your home a brand-new look. In fact, a clever application of the right paint colors can make your condo unit look and feel larger — all without changing a single foot of floor space. Best of all, even a novice can paint a room in just one weekend.

Choosing your paint color is the most fun and creative part of your painting project, but it can also be the most confusing. Before getting started, visit the Paint Center at True Value, the first retail outlet to infuse lifestyle shopping into hardware, offering Idea Cards with the latest colors and palettes to help you decide.

At True Value, you can consult certified color experts for professional color advice, expert tips, and answers to all your queries. It also boasts a “color computer,” which works like magic.

Choose Your Color

For example, you can have any color copied through the computer. But if you like a particular color, say the color of the blouse you’re wearing, you can have it scanned, too. The color computer will then give the formula on how to achieve that particular shade — or the color closest to it.

Here’s more. You can actually reorder the exact color mix you purchased a few years back without going through the whole color computer process again.

True Value has a customer file, which contains your name, what room you used it for, the formula used and other useful bits of information.

“So when you go back and reorder your special color, all we have to do is type it and then we will mix it again for you — same color and same consistency, too. So even if you come back a year later, you’re still going to get the same color,” explains True Value retail paint consultant Cliff Robinett, who flew in to the country recently for the launch of the newly renovated True Value store at Shangri-La Mall.

As a retail paint consultant, Robinett needs to determine what the customers’ expectations are when it comes to paints.

“One thing they want is color, so we’ll give them lots of colors with the help of our paint mixing device. The customers also want long-lasting paint products so they don’t have to repaint so often. We also work hard to give them better applicators — paint brushes and rollers — to get a good paint job. And to help them save time, money, and effort, we give them quality,” Robinett adds.

“Painter’s Select has a very good ‘hiding quality.’ With just one coat, the surface is already covered. It’s very economical,” says Lani Castañeda, marketing services manager, True Value.

True Value manufactures its own paint from the US so you’re assured of its quality. It’s non-toxic, doesn’t contain the toxins lead and mercury.

“Our paints are anti-mildew. They also allow for soap-and-water cleanup, are odorless and chock-resistant. When you rub other paints on the wall, you get powdery stuff on your hands. That’s called ‘paint breaking down.’ Our paints don’t break down. They ‘move’ with the house as they warm up in the morning and cool down at night,” Robinett adds.

True Value Is Bigger And Better

A bigger and better True Value store awaits shoppers at Shangri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong City. Now occupying close to 2,000 square meters, the newly renovated store boasts wide and well-lit aisles, additional selling space with more product lines, new flooring, and a brighter and cozier ambience for a pleasurable shopping experience.

True Value’s retail concept of a lifestyle home center goes beyond the conventional do-it-yourself store setup to a family-oriented retail space that highlights its product mix offer—an impressive range of local and imported brands that are neatly arranged, making it easier and faster for shoppers to search for and find the items they need.

“Shoppers can find items here which they don’t normally find in other hardware stores. We have what we call ‘fashion products’ that our clients look forward to. It’s something that we will buy now, but we might not order again like one-of-a-kind lamps, wall clocks, or cutlery,” says Castaneda.

Highlight of the launch was Philippine School for Interior Design’s (PSID) “Color Trends” home exhibit, which was mounted to introduce Painter’s Select, True Value’s new non-toxic and environment-friendly line of paints.

“True Value means quality. We don’t only sell a gallon of paint, we’re selling a project,” Robinett adds.
