Rony Diaz's new novel at Solidaridad
MANILA, Philippines - Rony V. Diaz’s novel The Adventures of Candida (Manila Times, 2011) will be presented at the Solidaridad Bookshop today at 5pm. Rony Diaz hails from Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija. He was former publisher, editor in chief and science columnist of Manila Times.
In his introduction to Diaz’s short story collection Death in the Sawmill and Other Stories, National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera called Diaz “a writer with a highly intellectual approach to his art.”
Manila Times literary editor Elmer Ordonez considered Diaz’s first novel “significant not particularly because of a resurrected theme but because it is a combination of a socially relevant subject and superior artistry, exemplifying what Mark Schorer said about ‘form’ as ‘achieved content.’ Thus, the novel renders the reality of our feudal and oligarchic society.”
