Interior & industrial design merge at One Capitol Condominium

MANILA, Philippines - Designing a condo unit can be tricky. Wall colors, furniture, appliances and furnishings should be meticulously considered.

 “It’s a good thing that interior design and industrial design have merged already, and those in the business of developing homes recognize the need for two experts to work together. This makes it easier to present homes or condo units that are already stylish and beautiful to begin with,” says interior designer Ana Marcelo.

Marcelo, who used to reside in Kapitolyo, Pasig, recognizes the suburban appeal of the community. From this, she came up with elegant home ideas that are perfect for PTR’s mid-rise projects such as Grand 21 Place, the Fifth at Rafael, One Capitol Condominium and 2/7 Residences.

“I helped in choosing which floor tiles to use, or what color should be used on the walls. This way, when the unit owners move in, they will already have an idea of what the general outcome of their homes would be.”

She adds that although minimalism would be a practical choice for condo dwellers, the design is not a popular choice among sentimental Pinoys.

“They find it hard to part with furniture pieces that have a sentimental value. My job is to help them come up with ideas, that can add character to their space. Period pieces, when given new life (through upholstery), will add character to the space,” Marcelo enthuses.

The designer also suggested the possibility of a modular-type of home as seen in high-rise communities in Hong Kong. This idea, she said, helps one save space. She also stressed the growing popularity of going eco-friendly.

“Functionality is foremost when you’ve decided to live in a condo. This is also a good chance to start leading an eco-friendly lifestyle. Residents tend to learn which items in the home can be recycled, and to use only what’s necessary to cut down on waste.”

For PTR Properties, Marcelo collaborated first with the marketing team regarding their target customers. She helps not only during the pre-selling stage but also before a customer moves in.

“In designing your condo units, don’t overdo things. Just stick to the basics and jazz up your space with color and texture. Look for ways to make your home look bigger. Using mirrors can add illumination to a space,” Marcelo notes.
