The eggball-ution of a chair at SM Interior Zone

-

MANILA, Philippines - The artistic and innovative interpretations of the Eggball and Bubble chairs by modern furniture designer Eero Aarnio were showcased in “Aarnovation: Filipino Versions of the Mind-Bubbling Eggball-ution” at the Exhibit Hall of SM City North-EDSA’s Interior Zone.

A project of BS Interior Design students of the College of Architecture and Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), the exhibit featured 12 prototypes of these acclaimed chairs designed by the school’s talented students.

Aarnio is a Finnish interior designer well known for his plastic and fiberglass chairs. The Ball Chair (with its hollow sphere on a stand), which he designed in 1963, is also known as the Globe Chair because of its convectional shape.

In 1968, he designed the Bubble Chair, an offshoot of the Ball Chair, which is suspended from above and much clearer. His other interesting creations are the Pastil Chair, a floating plastic chair, which is very similar to a solid inner tube, as well as the Tomato Chair and the Screw Table.

“Aarnovation: Filipino Versions of the Mind-Bubbling Eggball-ution” is one of the many exciting events at the Interior Zone, which houses innovative and interesting home stores.
