Makati Shangri-La gives back with green gifts
MANILA, Philippines - A recent Green Gifts thanksgiving luncheon held at Makati Shangri-La’s Circles Event Café revealed the lucky winners of a raffle draw that formed part of “Dreaming of a Green Christmas,” a tree-planting campaign the hotel launched last year to breathe new life into the Ipo Watershed in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
Amit Oberoi, Makati Shangri-La’s resident manager and corporate social responsibility champion, joined the luncheon.
Guests and patrons of the hotel shared in the advocacy by adopting a seedling for a minimum pledge. Over 7,000 saplings found a foster parent, making the green project a huge success.
As a gesture of gratitude, seedling donors were given a raffle coupon for a chance to win 10 innovative, eco-friendly green gifts ranging from energy-saving gadgets to two-night stays in a Shangri-La Philippine resort.
Known for its excellent recycling program and use of a non-removable battery, the MacBook Pro was considered a lucky win by Teej Mutya.
Other global energy-efficiency and mercury-free Apple devices given away were an iPhone 3GS and a green iPod Nano won by Arlene Perez and Alice Amorado, respectively.
Bringing the latest technology back to nature, the limited-edition Asus U6V Bamboo laptop came at the right time for Edwin Santos.
The unique and indigenous mechanism of the Kawayan Tech Bamboo Bike brought joy to the son of winner Miralie Paat.
Margarita Gilinksy can now enjoy skincare products made from organic ingredients with her Australian-label Jurlique cosmetic set.
Cecilie Francisco won an Eng Chen Gem coffee table made of recycled glass and steel, which she can proudly display in her home.
A stylish Pull Tab Bag from Echo Store and a gift hamper from Body Basic were nabbed by Arceli Cruz.
Just in time for that quick summer getaway, Jaime Matibal won a two-night stay in a deluxe room at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu, while Mary Jeannie Patrimonio won a two-night stay in a Tree House Villa at Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort and Spa. Both vacations include buffet breakfasts, discovery dives and nature walks.
These green gifts were carefully chosen to reflect the hotel’s appreciation and cause of protecting the environment. By sharing these natural and sustainable earth-friendly presents, Makati Shangri-La hopes that the promise to make a difference in the environment will spread throughout the local community.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific’s leading luxury hotel group, signed a corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy into effect in 2007 and launched a two-year development strategy to enhance its existing CSR activities.
