A green way to control pests

-

MANILA, Philippines - Not a single brand of pest control product sold in the Philippines gets an upper hand in terms of local patronage, as dealers offer a variety of chemicals without favoring one over another. To dealers, the choice is best left to customers as to which product to use.

Today, however, a “green” termiticide called Stedfast is getting an extra promotional and sales boost because one dealer believes it is the best of its kind for the construction sector.

Elmer Baradas, a 16-year veteran in pest control management, recently took it upon himself to exclusively distribute Stedfast through Upgreen Corporation, a known provider of patented and scientific pest-control system in the Philippines.

Baradas, who has been using Stedfast for many years, noted that since his family wanted to diversify from being a pest-control company to a product distributor anyway, he thought it best not to pass up the opportunity to market a product from a well-respected multinational chemical company, BASF.

“Aside from using the chemicals, we now also sell them. Our market is the pest-control operators like us,” says Baradas.

As president of Upgreen, Baradas also expressed confidence that his company can fill in the demand for Stedfast. He shares that there is a growing market for this termiticide in Calabarzon region, where the growth of construction is bigger compared to that in Metro Manila.

“The housing construction is now going outside Metro Manila,” he says. “And the market of the developer is also the market of pest control operators. There are really many users of this termiticide today.”

Baradas notes that Stedfast is a preferred brand not only for being very effective against termites but also for being very affordable. Stedfast contains a highly resolved pyrethroid that is toxic to all termite species.

The price of the termiticide is more than half the price of the second leading brand of the same chemical considering its dilution rate of one liter per 250 liters of water. Pest-control operators can treat more square meters of ground with Stedfast than any other termiticide, which can only be diluted by up to 50 liters of water.

Another advantage of Stedfast is that it is the only termiticide approved and licensed by the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority for use in both wood and soil.

Best of all, Stedfast is biodegradable and is not harmful to the environment making it safe for homes and properties.
