-

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Orchid Society holds the 64th Annual Orchid and Garden Show from Feb. 25 to March 8 at the Manila Seedling Bank Environmental Center corner EDSA and Quezon Avenue, QC.

According to overall show chairs Mylene Quinones and Anna Ruth Conde, the theme of the show is “Protecting Our Orchids from Climate Change.”

Apart from landscape exhibits of both orchids and ornamentals, manned by CV Lazaro, there’s also a commercial section handled by Willie Ortaliz and Vangie Go where the public can buy orchids and all kinds of plants, ornamentals, herbs, among others.

Activities include lecture-demonstrations on the various aspects of gardening, and a discussion on the effects of climate change to be coordinated by Norberto Bautista.

Club president Kelvin Neil Manubay is in charge of publicity, promotion and awards, while Tony Padilla handles the judging committee. Rolita V. Spowart is in charge of the physical arrangement, while Mary Ann Wu takes care of the reception together with Jenny Rivera and Jiffy Alegre.

On Feb. 28, Vangie Go will talk on “Ferns as the Perfect Companions of Orchids.” Sympodial orchids will be discussed by CV Lazaro on March 1; Norberto Bautista will talk on “Controlling Pests and Diseases” on March 2; and Kelvin Manubay will talk about the Philippine orchid species on March 3.

Basic bonsai making will be demonstrated by Mody Manglicmot on March 4; plant nutrition and urban vegetable gardening will be discussed by Allied Botanical Corporation on March 5 while East West Seed Corporation will demonstrate the production of annual flowering plants on March 6 at 10 a.m.

In the afternoon, Juvy Anit will teach basic orchid propagation.
