MANILA, Philippines - The key to healthy eating is not only selecting the right food, but also the right cookware. And luckily, advancements in technology have made it possible for us to cook “green” with cookware like the Neoflam with Ecolon coating.

Distributed in the Philippines by Noble Houseware Marketing Corporation, Neoflam was recently launched by SM Homeworld at the SM Megamall Atrium.

The event graced by top Neoflam officials such as Neoflam Korea president Tae Young Chang, Neoflam Taiwan president Joseph Tsai, and Korea vice president Chang Soo Park. Noble Houseware Marketing Corporation president and GM Arnold Ngo flew to Manila for the launch. They were welcomed by SM Homeworld representatives.

Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Choi Joong Kyung led the list of distinguished guests, which included Xsplore Singapore president Michael Lo and director Yong Chee Fai, Newsell Taiwan Niu, Chi Tseng, and Pure Glory Hong Kong president David Wong. Image model China Cojuangco and TV personality Atty. During the program hosted by Suzie Entrata-Abrera, chef Gino Gonzales, executive chef of Café Ysabel and chef-instructor of the Center for Asian Culinary Studies, showed guests how to whip up delectable meals using Neoflam cookware with Ecolon coating. Among these were cojonudas (Asian stir-fried clams), and butter cake with ginger caramel and whipped cream.

The excitement continued during the cook-off challenge between chef Gino Gonzales and award-winning actor and restaurateur Marvin Agustin. Each was given 15 minutes to whip up mouthwatering dishes using Neoflam cookware. Chef Gino concocted a pasta dish using Lucban longganisa, while Marvin prepared fresh pesto pasta with shrimps and Italian sausages. 

The event was capped by a raffle draw. SM Homeworld and Neoflam gave away Neoflam with Ecolon coating cookware to three lucky winners.

• What makes Neoflam with Ecolon coating special?

Ecolon, Neoflam’s proprietary non-stick coating is made from ceramic that is completely PTFE and PFOA free. Because it is made from natural, non-toxic materials, it is safe for the human body and is environmentally friendly.

• What are PTFE and PFOA?

PTFE, which is also known as Teflon, can be dangerous for cooking as its chemical properties will degrade above 260° C and decompose above 350° C, which can start releasing harmful chemicals. PFOA, on the other hand, is considered to be a suggested carcinogen by US EPA, which has started to phase out the use of this material by 2011.

• What are the features of Neoflam with Ecolon coating?

Neoflam is die-cast and has a wide range of design options. Its flexible design allows for different wall and bottom thicknesses for a lighter cookware with good heat transfer. Neoflam cookware with Ecolon coating can be used for gas, electric, ceramic, and halogen stoves; and it’s refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher safe.

• Is it safe for the environment and one’s health?

Neoflam cookware is eco-friendly because it does not use any PTFE or PFOA. Also, the ceramic coating requires half the energy to apply the coating on the cookware, reducing CO2 emissions by half during the manufacturing process.

• Can you cook on Neoflam cookware without any oil or butter?

Yes, that’s why cooking on Neoflam is so healthy. Butter or oil can be added to flavor the food while cooking, but it is not necessary to prevent the sticking of the food to the cookware.

• How do you care for your Neoflam cookware?

You can remove stains by using a gentle scrubber and dishwashing detergent. If the stains still do not come out, add some water and detergent into the cookware and let is boil until the stain is removed.

Although it is not a requirement, it’s best to drizzle a new Neoflam pan with a little oil as it can enhance the non-stick properties as well as protect the coating surface. It is also recommended when Neoflam cookware has been washed in the dishwasher.
