Eco-fashion fete at Ayala Malls
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination, Ayala Malls, is at the forefront of promoting love for planet Earth with a series of events and activities through its eco-conscious campaign, Greenology. Bringing together some of the hottest retailers and fashion designers in the country today, Ayala Malls, in partnership with Banco De Oro, presents the limited-edition Green Line — an exclusive line of clothes and accessories made from eco-friendly materials.
The fashion event, “Earth Designs,” held at the Greenbelt 5 Zone, gathered fashion-forward and eco-chic stylistas, who were on the lookout for the latest in green fashion. Merchants including Bayo, Folded & Hung, Jurlique, Ana Rocha, Aranaz, Arnel Papa, Atelier Avatar, Barba, Michi Calica-Sotto and Emi Jorge of Bonne Bouche, Gaupo, Kate Torralba, Jun Escario, Randy Ortiz and Joel Escober of Myth, Paradi, Religioso and Victoria Marin showcased their trend-setting pieces. Some organic materials were transformed into outfits, bags, accessories and heels. As the models strutted down the hallway, guests visited the participating stores and took first dibs on the Green Line.
Ayala Malls has always been at the forefront of sustainable living as seen in their various programs and even their mall designs. One innovative green solution is the use of an Ice Thermal Storage air-conditioning system that makes ice at night while demand is low, and uses the ice to cool the building the next day when demand is high. Complementing this is the green roof, which reduces the “heat gain” inside the building, thereby reducing the cooling load and saving on air-conditioning costs. Ayala Malls’ Market! Market! showcases a vegetable garden using recycled materials on its rooftop. Another effort is the Solid Waste Management program, which converts garden waste into compost or soil conditioner through Vermi-composting. Shredded and pulverized dried residual wastes are converted into brick after mixed with cement, sand and water, then these are used as paving blocks in the Ayala Center.
Eco Totes designed by Louis Claparols, Michi Calica-Sotto, Vic Barba, Patrice Ramos-Diaz, Jun Escario and Randy Ortiz are also being sold for P400 at the concierge of each Ayala Mall. For every bag sold, P100 will go to the World Wildlife Fund.
