MANILA, Philippines - For architects JE and Ren Santos, the husband-and-wife team behind the elegant architecture of 55 Events Place, success stems from having a passion for what one does and doing it well. Indeed, their passion for innovative design is revealed through the sophisticated and hip venue that stands out amid the hustle and bustle of the Tomas Morato district.
JE and Ren elaborate on their recipe for the venue’s successful design: “As with 55 Events Place, we never subscribe to a single design style for a specific structure, but instead create innovative designs that respond well to the culture, history and character of the place and its people. In the case of 55 Events Place, we actually converted an old warehouse through the concept of adaptive reuse, which means adapting old structures for purposes other than those initially intended. This cost-effective process maximizes the initial structure’s use by making it more functional as well as aesthetically pleasing.”
Indeed, 55 Events Place leaves a lasting impression for passersby. Its corporate chic and modern look was achieved by the intertwining of its interior and exterior spaces, for which the Santoses utilized see-through gates and fences, horizontal louvered screens and trellises, large picture windows and doors — all influences of tropical Asian architecture.
The unity of functionality and aesthetics for both indoor and outdoor spaces is apparent when stepping into the venue. The structure creates a successful merging of the lush greenery of the garden and outdoor space. Ren explains: “This was achieved by developing open spaces that highlight the garden and applying acoustics to ensure the interior would blend with its environment.”
The landscaping is the venue’s main highlight, complete with a modern glass water feature and fountains that warm up the mood of the place. Modern, minimal furnishings mark the interior spaces, while well-chosen accessories and muted colors set the tone in each room. In addition, the interiors are marked by clean lines and nominal features, simple railings, unadorned two-toned walls and flooring, and subtle hues.
55 Events Place features 700 square meters of multi-functional space. With its two major function halls, full professional kitchen with a separate service entry, cozy lounge, sleek, air-conditioned male and female toilets, eight-meter-high ceilings, VIP lounge and private conference rooms, the possibilities for partying are endless. Indeed, the clean and uncluttered design of the venue makes it adaptable to all kinds of party themes, from the simplest to the most extraordinary.
