A responsible kind of shopping
MANILA, Philippines - Everyone eagerly awaits the arrival of the Christmas season. What’s number one on your list would always be the shopping you have to do — buying gifts for friends and loved ones, a new TV perhaps, new clothes for the kids. But as you reach into your pocket, you can’t help but think about others who are not so fortunate. As we deal with this reality, we set aside a little something to give to charity.
This Christmas, the Rotary Club of Makati lets you shop without guilt. Because when you shop at their Christmas Bazaar, you will be helping the flood victims of Ondoy as well as funding various humanitarian projects the Club has lined up. The bazaar will be held on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Renaissance (formerly New World) Hotel in Makati.
Choose from an assortment of children’s clothes, accessories, Christmas decor, leather goods, toys, stationery, native crafts, linen and even fully decorated, one-of-a-kind Christmas trees. Now on its 22nd year, the Christmas bazaar will fund the club’s program for the rehabilitation of the flood victims and continue to support its monthly medical missions, consultation and surgery for eye patients, computer training for out-of-school youth, the distribution of books to public schools and libraries throughout the country, and community development for the entire population of families in shanties near the NAIA terminal.
The Rotary Christmas Bazaar is being organized by the Rotary Anns led by Tessie Amparo, wife of Rotary Club of Makati president Felix Amparo. Co-chairpersons are Mely Hechanova and Angel Quila, supported by committee heads Mimi Valerio, Pina Rojas, Terry Tambunting, Et Librea, Yvonne Kuan, Lu Limjoco, Vicky Cantada, Tere Boyer, Marilou Alejandro, Maureen Soong, Milette Carlos, Chit Marty, Menchit Ordoveza, Pam Manzano, Jojo Borromeo, Lil Dominguez, Caling Young, Irene Barcelon, and Terry Tambunting.
