MANILA, Philippines - Who is the Los Angeles-based architect best known for extensively revitalizing a once defunct industrial tract in Culver City, California, and who has worked closely with the cities of Guangzho in China, Tours in France, and Vienna in Austria?
He was born and raised in California and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California in Los Angeles in 1965. Continuing his education, he earned his masters of architecture from the University of California in Berkely, College of Environmental Design in 1968, and a second masters of architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1972.
Through the years, he has worked extensively to revitalize a once defunct industrial tract in Culver City, California. The introduction of vibrant designs that challenge the boundaries of technology and foster creativity have successfully created jobs and community morale through the development of the project known as Conjunctive Points.
His efforts have gained recognition locally, nationally, and internationally for innovative building techniques, community development, and job creation as well as excellence in design.
His work has included university facilities for Stanford University and the University of California; office buildings and corporate headquarters for Eastman Kodak, Olgivy and Mather, and Sony Entertainment. He has also done work for cultural institutions like the Queens Museum of Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Beijing Exhibition in China, and the Leopold Hoesch Museum der stadt Duren in Germany.
He has done homes for prominent persons like Pamela and Richard Aronoff in California; as well as projects for cities like Guangzhou in China, Tours in France, Vienna in Austria, and Moscow in Russia.
In 2003, he was awarded the Business Week/Architectural Record Award for the design and construction of the Stealth. In 1998, he received the AIA/LA Medal for the achievement of an outstanding body of architectural works. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and was a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for the University of California in Berkeley in 2003. He is a director of the Southern California Institute of Architecture.
