MANILA, Philippines - “Orchids for Health and Wellness” is the theme of the Philippine Orchid Society’s Midyear Orchid and Garden show slated for Aug. 27 to Sept. 7. at the sunken garden fronting Quezon City Hall corner Elliptical Circle and East Avenue, Quezon City.

Lecture-demonstrations on the subject include Going Natural and Herbal by Gawad Kalinga on Aug. 28, followed by Growing Vandaceous Orchids by Carlos V. Lazaro, POS Club president. On Aug. 29 is the Importance of Enzymes for all Plants, while Basic Landscaping will be shown by Fred Salud. On Aug. 30; is a talk on Organic Fertilizers for Orchids by Allied Botanicals; Ornamentals and Vegetables and the Art of Flower Arrangements for All Occasions will be taught by Egay Littawa of Floral Designers Circle. On Aug. 31 Norby Bautista will talk on Growing Dendrobiums and Phalaenopsis as Cut Flowers and/or Pot Plants.

Orchid potting techniques will be discussed by Jun Golamco on Sept. 1 while Vangie Go will talk on Ferns and Fern Allies on Sept. 2. Sept. 3 will be on Basic Growing Bonsai by Mody Manglicmot and Sept. 4 on Plant Nutrition by Reinald del Valle of Allied Botanicals, while East-West Seed Company will tackle the Production of Annual Plants. Scaler Energy will be discussed by Raquel Dopito on Sept. 5 to be followed by Atty. Nani Perez on the Culture of Hybrid Cattleyas. Ikebana Prof. Mett Metilla will show Dish Gardening and Indoor Plantscaping for Urban Homes on Sept. 6 and Angie Salabit will discuss Starting an Orchid and Ornamental Plant Business on Sept. 7.

Orchids, ornamentals and other garden accessories will be raffled off to all those who attend the lectures.
