A taste of Greek architecture

MANILA, Philippines - Res/Toe/Run recently opened an outlet at Glorietta 4, designed around the grandeur of Greece by architect Dindo Guerrero of Abesamis-Guerrero Architects, the firm that also designed the Res|Toe|Run outlets in Ayala Center Cebu, TriNoma, Gateway, and Robinsons Galleria.

Guerrero made an interesting interplay of bright and muted color palette. Deep blue shades that bring the likeness of the wide-open Aegean Sea beautifully stand out from the predominantly gleaming white wall treatment, which symbolizes the charming village homes of Santorini.

For warm, laid-back touches, specks of brown, green, red, and other sun-kissed hues are present in the decorative items such as paintings, earthen kitchenware, potteries, sculptures, and framed mosaic tiles. “The placement of canopies, trellises, and the stone walkways in the store mimicked the laid-back outdoor vacationing feel in Plaka,” he adds.

Also among the unique design elements is the white stucco wall treatment which serves as a bright, fitting background for the shoe displays. Repetitive patterns of octagon also add simplistic elegance.

For display areas, the Glorietta outlet uses abaca ropes to entwine the recycled wine bottles to the metallic shoe rack. Overhead, a large canopy with projectors creates a vivid lighting effect as it beams over the multitude of new footwear choices such as DC, Kickers, Sanuk, Fitflop, Lofu, Tsubo, Sledgers, Columbia, The North Face, Vasque, Salomon, La Fuma and Gravis.
