Federal Land goes green
MANILA, Philippines – Without a doubt, global warming is the biggest threat to the current home of all living things — planet Earth — which is why environmental scientists are espousing the cause of green living that focuses on the three R’s — reduce, reuse, and recycle.
To increase awareness on the issue, Federal Land, Inc., one of the leading property developers in the country, recently participated in the 2009 Recyclables Market and Wellness Camp held at the Manila Doctors campus in the Federal Land-owned Metropolitan Park, Pasay City.
Now in its third year, the whole-day event was part of the environmental initiatives of the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI), a member of the Metrobank Group, which Federal Land is affiliated with.
“When MBFI contacted us, we immediately informed our building manager and all the residents of Bay Garden, Ocean Tower, Bayview International Tower, and the Oriental Garden Makati of this event,” says Dexter Aviles, Federal Land’s assistant marketing manager. Federal Land recognizes emerging global trends in green architecture and eco-friendly living, and the company’s participation in the recycling program demonstrates their environmental responsibility.
“We have a lot of residential and commercial developments. We told them that this is an event that they can participate in. Everybody should be looking for ways to save and use renewable energy,” Aviles adds. “Federal Land is accentuating the importance of reducing ecological footprint and putting up green projects as part of the company’s commitment towards ensuring the health and welfare of our patrons.”
But Federal Land believes that it is not enough to just build places to live in. “It is also important to consider the importance of sustainability. It is the core of living to maintain resources for future generations. Sustainable development should then focus on three elements: the community, the environment, and the economy. Federal Land is bent on developing eco-friendly communities,” Aviles points out.
Efficient water management systems and open, verdant areas are also in place as part of the company’s green architecture.
The 2009 Recyclables Market and Wellness Camp showcased lectures on alternative medicine, vegetarianism, aromatherapy, eco-tourism and eco-home, environment, and art as well as body combat, Filipino games, and aerobics demonstrations. Exhibitors were also on hand to display organic goods and services.
