Team Yellow Cab gets fast and furious
MANILA, Philippines - The grounds of the Alabang Town Center played host to the 1st part of the Castrol Edge Drift Underground Series.
Yellow Cab Pizza Co., best known for its innovative selection of New York-style pizzas, is now recognized as a key player in the drifting scene. The eight-man Yellow Cab Drift Team includes actor/photographer Ryan Agoncillo and just recently, three-time Lateral Drift Series champion Alex Perez. Overall, the team has been competing for a total of three years, with Rexyboi, a souped-up Mazda RX-7 crossed with a Nissan engine.
“You won’t find any other car like this. In fact, it’s only the fourth car of this kind in the world. It’s got a ‘drifted’ engine and Nissan parts; we took out everything inside and replaced it with Nissan parts. We found out that in Japan, they did this twice already, and then only once in the US,” Ryan shares.
Yellow Cab’s drive for product and service innovation streams into their passion for drifting. “I really appreciate the support given by Yellow Cab to the team. Drifting is hip and hot, and we are speeding by right under the wings of a great pizza place.” Ryan said. “Take a look at Rexyboi. We whiz by and usually people get annoyed at souped-up ‘macho’ cars, but with this yellow speed-devil, people actually crane their necks and smile!”
Alex agrees. Even if it’s just his first year with the team, he is very appreciative of the support he’s been getting from them, “I love it; they’ve been very aggressive in their support. I’m glad to be part of a team like Yellow Cab.”
The Castrol Edge Underground Series takes amateur drifters front and center, pitting skills against each other. They are judged mostly on speed, angle of attack, execution, and style rather than just who finishes fastest. Next legs of the event will be on Feb. 28, March 21, and April 18 at the Alabang Town Center.
