It takes two to Tiesto

PEPE DON'T PREACH - Pepe Diokno -

Two record-breaking events — and two halls of the World Trade Center tonight, that is.

In 2006, DJ Tiesto took Manila, playing the biggest dance party we’ve ever seen in the local scene... till today. 6,000 people attended then.

According to producers Stephen Ku and Don Puno, 10,000 are expected now.

To accommodate the massive, the party has been moved from Alchemy in Pasig to the World Trade Center in Pasay. More room to riot.

New Sound

Tiesto brings with him an awesome new sound. He’s here as part of a world tour to promote his Grammy-nominated album, “Elements of Life.” The record has a few surprises. While the trademark trance thumps are there, the new tracks have an earthier sound to them. The songs are well-written, they border on mellow — there’s a thoughtfulness from Tiesto like never before.

The elements earth, wind, air, and fire are obvious inspiration for Tiesto. We’re told this will be evident in tonight’s show as well — state-of-the-art special effects, moving water systems, high-def video screens, and a larger-than-life performances.

World’s #1 DJ

After all, Tiesto has been named the world’s #1 DJ. The list of his awards has its own Wikipedia page. He’s the only DJ ever to play at the Olympics — he spun at the opening ceremony of the Athens games in front of billions of people. And, using his fame for good, he just recently was named the singular DJ ambassador of Dance4Life, a worldwide foundation for HIV/AIDS awareness.

We say, tonight’s event won’t fuel any doubters. This is the consensus among party peeps too, says Motorola marketing Supremo — and Tiesto fan — Mari Litonjua. At an intimate Elements of Life warm-up party hosted by Moto, Supreme was told the edgy phonemakers are so amped about tonight’s party, they’re spreading the love.
