Partying is such sweet sorrow

-

DJ D.J. stands for DJ David Jacob. DJ can also stand for dream job, as David holds the position of managing director for Asia Pacific of Marsh Asia, a risk management and insurance brokerage firm based in Hong Kong, by day.  By night, he pursues his other passion — spinning music.  Just recently, David Jacob made us Pinoys proud with the international release of his new CD, “Kee Club Sessions.”

Kee Club is home to HK’s chichi party set. It is a premier private member’s club where the velvet rope policy is stricter than three Aslie Aslanians combined. As music meister at Kee Club, David is responsible for the Darkroom Boogie Session, the official Friday residency at Kee Club, which he headlines with top DJ Vinnie Q. Since their debut in 2005, David and Vinnie have been headlining HK’s weekend party soundtrack for the city’s groovy revelers and house music aficionados.

I remember one party night in Hong Kong when I popped by hip hotspot Drop to meet up with Dave and company.  I’m used to special treatment when I’m in clubs in Manila, but I didn’t expect to get the same red-carpet treatment in Hong Kong.  The magic door pass code? David Jacob.

For the launch of this debut double CD, which features international DJs Matt Caseli (he’s been to our shores, fell in love with Manila and Boracay and with a youthful Filipina, too!), Shik Stylko and Darkroom Booogie, aka DJs Vinnie Q and David J. — a full-force Pinoy delegation stormed the City of Life not to shop but to party — till they dropped!

Partying, as we all know by now, is another one of Pinoys’ favorite pastimes.  So the Pinoy party troopers trampled upon Kee Club’s gates to give their all-out support to DJ D.J.  Heading the pack was proud girlfriend Amanda Griffin, who came with girlfriends Rosanna Ocampo (fresh from Milan to Manila), and Erin Campos.  Hong Kong-based models Alex Escat and Kelly Misa joined in on the fun, too, as well as Jed Dario, to represent NBK, where David started his DJ career.  In fact, on the CD sleeve, David gives a big shout out to our very own DJ S, whom he considers his mentor.

From Orange to Embassy to Warehouse in Manila to Drop and Kee Club in Hong Kong, and even to The Funky Room at Pacha, Ibiza — David Jacob has, indeed, borrowing his own words, taken it “to the next level.”    — Tim Yap
