Dumaguete’s 1st Wedding Fair and Kabulakan Festival

-

Head out for one last summer road trip.  Come to Dumaguete City to witness the unveiling of Dumaguete’s local wedding industry on May 25 and watch the 1st Kabulakan Festival on May 26.

The month of May in Dumaguete City is the time when Mother Nature shows its best colors - flowers bloom in profusion, trees are lush and green – providing the perfect backdrop and ambiance for a wedding celebration.

The Kasalang Filipino in Dumaguete is a confirmation of Dumagueteños’ creativity and talent. On the other hand, the Kabulakan Festival is  a testament of cooperation and camaraderie among the residents of the barangays. Both events exemplify the character of a gentle and genteel people of Dumaguete.

What will happen during these two exciting events?

Momentum and excitement will be provided by  popular bands such as Kamikaze, Urban Dub and Brownman Revival, starting on May 18, the opening salvo of the foodfest, aptly called “Kumbira sa Dumaguete”, at Quezon Park. The leading restaurants in the City will put up kiosks at the Quezon Park for the duration of the festival.  On May 26, which is the festival day, six barangays will pit talents, art, and creativity against each other in the streetdancing competition.   Each barangay chooses a flower which is endemic in the province, and interprets its legend or meaning through dance, costumes, and props.

As for Kasalang Filipino in Dumaguete, the 1st wedding fair in the City will be opened on May 25 with a cultural presentation, “Kasalan Sa Dauin,” depicting the wedding traditions in the town of Dauin, Negros. Various wedding suppliers of Dumaguete and Negros Oriental will exhibit their craft in the event’s partner venue, Bethel Guest House. A photo gallery of prominent weddings in Dumaguete will also be showcased.

Organized by Key Cities Events Marketing, in partnership with Kasal.com, a web-based wedding resource, and ABS-CBN, Kasalang Filipino in Dumaguete will be highlighted by competitions such as bridal bouquet-making, table arrangement and skirting, and bridal hairdressing and make-up.  The first day will be capped with “ Maanyag Nga Lalik”, a fashion show featuring the premier bridal creations of local designers and couturiers.  This will be held in the scenic frontage of Bethel Guest House along the Dumaguete Boulevard.

On May 26, Metro Manila’s known event stylist Henry Pascual will do a demo/talk on flower and event styling while the Dept. of Trade and Industry will give tips on how to start a wedding-related business. During the late afternoon, guests will be serenaded with musical renditions of the City’s famous rondalla groups. The event will be closed with the awarding of raffle prizes to lucky to-be wed guests.

Something is definitely  brewing in Dumaguete City—or blooming, to be exact. Whichever is more beautiful and colorful – its flower festival or its wedding fair – we hope you can come and visit to find out!
