Yuri goes to Greenbelt
February 5, 2005 | 12:00am
It was an interesting Sunday for Yuri (the Mini-Schnauzer with me in the photo) and I. But before I tell you about it, let me tell you about Yuris trip to the dentist recently.
I had noticed that Yuri was looking like he was not his usual lively self. I had been wondering if there was anything wrong with his teeth because, truth to tell, he was having a bad case of doggy breath.
The trip to the dentist began with a blood test.
"Because Yuri is considered a geriatric dog he has to undergo a blood test. We need to make sure he is healthy enough for the anesthesia we need to give him to work on his teeth," said the kind vet to me.
Geriatric Yuri is. He is eight-years-old and in people years that would make him a little over 50-years-old.
"OK," I said.
The results of the blood test showed that Yuri was healthy to undergo the teeth cleaning procedure. Off Yuri went to the vet. His teeth were cleaned and they also had to remove four teeth which were causing the bad doggy breath smell.
It took Yuri just a day to recover from the procedure and today he is back to his young,-ready-to-go anywhere self.
So, I thought that it would be a good idea to take him with me to mass last Sunday.
We opted to go to the chapel at the Greenbelt Park. Yuri and I felt that the park would be best because both he and I would be able to sit outside the church and still actively participate in Mass.
Yuri sat through the Mass very patiently. And, no, the guards at Greenbelt did not ask us to leave, they left us pretty much alone.
After Mass, it was a hot Sunday afternoon, Yuri and I opted to go to Rustans Grocery in Greenbelt 1. I passed through the entrance of Greenbelt 1 where Pancake House is and the guard gave me a smile and allowed Yuri in.
When I got to the grocery, the guard on duty asked me if Yuri would prefer to ride the cart. Yes, was my quick reply. Yuri sat in the cart just like a good kid would and I was able to get the stuff I needed at the grocery.
Shopping done. Our next stop was Segafredo in Greenbelt 2.
I ordered a lime shake and the kind waitress asked me if Yuri would like some water.
"Yes," was Yuri response.
The kind waitress got a plastic container and filled it with water for Yuri as she brought me the very cold and delicious lime juice.
"Anong klaseng aso si Yuri," the staff at Segafredos asked.
"Miniature Schnauzer," was my reply.
"And bait niya," they said
Yuri sat by my side as he watched the people walk pass by us as we sat out-side Segafredo. Neither he nor I were bothered by people passing by and the guards were very accommodating about Yuris presence.
Nuff said.
The malls are becoming more pet-friendly at least it seems that way.
But as usual it is important that their humans make sure that their canine companions behave themselves.
Eastwood is pet-friendly and the weekends that I have been there, I have seen how responsible the pet owners make sure that their doggies are on leashes and dont bother other shoppers who might not be too keen about standing next to a doggie.
The Powerplant Mall at Rockwell also welcomes the doggies.
And now Greenbelt.
Wooffffyyyyy!!!!!!!
