A one-day vacation that takes the aches away

- Joseph Cortes -
Looking for a pocket vacation this summer? A break that’s short enough to fit into your busy schedule? Something that will both relax and rejuvenate you? The Manila Pavilion Hotel has a number of room packages that will fit your needs this summer.

Highly recommended is the Manila Pavilion’s Indulgence room plus spa package that combines an overnight deluxe room accommodation with an authentic Chinese foot spa and massage at the Embassy Spa, located within the hotel premises. Priced at P2,995net, it is a steal for those seeking a new therapeutic experience.

Embassy Spa’s Chinese foot spa and massage is an hour-long session that is guaranteed to relieve your body’s aches. Following the ancient art of Chinese foot reflexology, trained foot massage therapists manipulate reflex points in your feet to stimulate vital functions, eliminate body toxins and improve body circulation, which are guaranteed to soothe stressed nerves and muscles.

Unlike the usual aromatherapy massages, Chinese foot massage concentrates its attention on the soles of the feet, the legs and the thighs to relieve stress. At Embassy Spa, guests have a choice of either a male or female therapist. But it doesn’t really matter who works your feet because pampering is the last thing that will come to your mind when you get a Chinese foot massage.

The whole spa treatment starts with a really hot herbal foot soak. Here, the foot soak can be scalding hot. Don’t be shy to ask for more cold water from your therapist should the foot soak prove to be unbearable. After some time, your feet are dried and rubbed with a soothing balm. They are then wrapped in towels to maximize the full effect of the smoothening balm.

As you rest your tired feet, your therapist gives your arms, shoulders and head a regular massage. With a choice of either a mentholated or simple scented balm, she works it into your skin, untangling the knots in your head and shoulders, tension that has gathered inside you from the busy week. However, that is still child’s play compared to the foot reflexology to come.

When the therapist takes off the towel from one foot, she uses her hands to work her magic. She rubs it between her hands, uses her knuckles to poke your sole and pinches your toes until they’re pink. If you’re ticklish, a foot massage can be an ordeal. But if you will your foot to relax and let your therapist do her work, you’ll know the massage worked the moment you step out of the spa.

When she’s done with your feet, she begins working on your legs and thighs. No, she doesn’t pinch them like she does your feet, but she kneads them well and slowly pulls your legs in ways you’ve never imagined you can do.

When she’s done with your legs, it’s time for your back massage. She asks you to turn over and proceeds to put pressure on your back. She works your back in parts for a complete body workout.

If you find yourself dozing off during an aromatherapy massage, you won’t during a Chinese foot massage. And surprise, when you walk out of the spa, you find yourself feeling light and stress-free and just raring to go up to your room, climb into bed and sleep the wearisome week away. How’s that for a one-day vacation?
